‘Game of Thrones’ Returns to Record Breaking Numbers

Game of Thrones‘ fifth season premiered on HBO last Sunday and it’s no surprise that the series returned to record-breaking numbers.

According to Variety, “Nielsen estimates than an average audience of about 8 million watched the initial telecast of “Game of Thrones” on Sunday — up 1.16 million viewers (or 17%) from its year-ago debut of 6.84 million. It’s also about 800,000 more than any other episode of the show to date.”

In TV laymen’s terms, that means Game of Thrones‘ only rival in the ratings cable arena is The Walking Dead(which still currently tops the fantasy series, but the gap gets smaller and smaller every year).

Take a peek at our Game of Thrones poll and let us know whose storylines your most excited about following and tune in to a new episode of the series Sunday at 9pm on HBO.
