‘Empire’ Actresses Gabourey Sidibe and Ta’Rhonda Jones Bumped Up to Series Regulars

It looks like fans will be getting even more of the sassy assistants they love in the second season of FOX’s hit new drama Empire.

Gabourey Sidibe and Ta’Rhonda Jones, who play Empire Records rulers Lucious and Cookie Lyons’ respective assistants Becky and Porsha, have been bumped up to series regulars, according to TVLine.

This comes as great news for fans of the series, as both characters became breakout favorites during their brief moments onscreen. From Becky being the first person outside of the family that Lucious told about his “ALS,” to Porsha proving her loyalty to Cookie by double crossing the double crossing Boo Boo Kitty (aka Annika).

At least one of these promotions comes as no huge surprise to us. When we spoke with Empire co-creator Danny Strong, we asked him which of the show’s characters he’d give a spinoff, if he could. “Which character, I mean, don’t you think Porsha? Maybe Porsha?….because she is a comic genius, she’s hilarious, and I believe it’s [Ta’Rhonda Jones’] first acting job…So, I think that could be an absolutely hilarious, maybe it’ll be like a buddy-cop show and I’ll play her sidekick.”

Are you happy we’ll be seeing more of these ladies come season 2? Let’s chat about it in the comments below!
