Netflix Releases ‘Fuller House’ Details and They Sound Depressing

More information about Netflix’s Full House revival has come out and, while we’re still planning on watching, the new premise sounds a little depressing.

When we return to check up on the Tanners (and Kimmy), we’ll meet a grown up and recently widowed D.J. As if that’s not sad enough, she’s pregnant with her youngest child! We didn’t know we were signing up for this, but we have faith the series will have Full House‘s sitcom-y tone that we all grew to love.

Read the description from the network below and tell us this doesn’t make you feel for D.J. Tanner:

In Fuller House, the adventures that began in 1987 on Full House continue, with veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Cameron-Bure) pregnant and recently widowed, living in San Francisco. D.J.’s younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Sweetin) and D.J.’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Barber), along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona, all move in to help take care of D.J.’s two boys – the rebellious 12-year-old J.D. and neurotic 7-year-old Max – and her soon-to-arrive baby.

Are the Tanners cursed? Why is poor D.J. “recently widowed”? This means she’s lost her mother and her husband at this point. Why do they keep traumatizing her like this? And what happened to Kimmy’s husband and/or baby’s father? Since when did Stephanie want to become a musician? I thought those dreams died with Girl Talk? So many questions…

“The continued support of Full House fans of all ages for the last 28 years has been astounding. It is an honor and a thrill to catch up with these beloved characters and explore their lives today. The love you saw on the show was real. The cast has remained a loving family off screen all these years. We are as excited as our fans to finally bring Full House back to life,” said the show’s executive producers Robert L. Boyett, Thomas L. Miller and Jeff Franklin in a joint statement.

Fuller House heads to Netflix in 2016.

  1. Wow, kind of a bummer premise, though I guess the original of the dead mom/single dad was kind of sad too. Here are a couple questions I will have until we find out more:

    1. Since the Olsen Twins have 100% nothing to do with Full House ever will they kill off Michelle too (you know, just to make it that much sadder)?
    2. Will her deceased husband be Steve? Or will it be some other guy and Steve appear as her high school flame that has returned to her?

I kind of wonder how many cameos we’ll see from regulars on the original cast
