‘Community’ Star Joel McHale to Guest Star on ‘The X-Files’

Community star Joel McHale is taking his talents to The X-Files to help explore the mysteries of the universe.

McHale joins the cast as Tad O’Malley, “the anchor of a popular conservative Internet news network who becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder (Duchovny)”, reports Deadline. The actor was reportedly looking for another dramatic role to take on and the series’ creator, Chris Carter, was already a fan of his work.

Joel will guest star alongside the show’s originals stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, who are returning as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner) and William B. Davis (The Smoking Man). X-Files production vets Glen Morgan and James Wong are also confirmed to return writers-producers.

If you want to know more about what to expect from the new season, you can read some of the juicy spoilers TV Line revealed (for example, “There’s “a big chance” the Lone Gunmen will join returning X-vets Mulder, Scully, Skinner and The Smoking Man.”)

The six-episode event series is currently in production.

The X-Files limited event return will premiere January 24th on FOX.
