Syfy Teams Up with Bradley Cooper, Graham King and Todd Phillips for ‘Hyperion’

Syfy is joining forces with actor and Oscar-nominated producer Bradley Cooper, Oscar-winning producer Graham King and Todd Phillips to develop a new event series for the network.

Hyperion, based on Dan Simmons’ Hugo Award-winning best-selling novel of the same name, is in line as the network’s next big event series and they announced today that Cooper, King and Phillips have signed on to executive produce the project.

“It is an absolute honor to enter into the world created by Dan Simmons that is arguably one of the greatest works of science fiction, and help realize it for television audiences,” said Cooper about his attachment to the project.

For those unfamiliar with Hyperion, the tale is set on the eve of Armageddon with the entire galaxy at war, and tells the story of seven pilgrims who set forth on a voyage to seek the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. Each carries a desperate hope and a terrible secret — while one may hold the fate of humanity in his hands.

The new event series fits right in with the network’s strategy to create bold and distinctive sci-fi fantasy drama and joins Syfy’s roster of high-profile scripted and development projects, including the recently-announced series pickup of The Magicians, based on Lev Grossman’s best-selling books; the December’s 10-part series The Expanse ; Arthur C. Clarke’s mini-series Childhood’s End, also set to premiere this December; The Walking Dead EP Gale Anne Hurd’s 13-episode thriller Hunters; David Goyer’s Superman prequel, Krypton; and Incorporated, a pilot thriller from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
