Robert Kirkman Talks Connections Between ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Fear The Walking Dead’

The Walking Dead‘s creator Robert Kirkman has finally started to reveal how show’s new companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, will line up with the original.

It’s been said multiple times that the new series and the original series won’t cross-over, but since FTWD is a companion to TWD, they must be related in some way, right? See what Kirkman had to say about that to Entertainment Weeklybelow:

“Everything that happens in Fear The Walking Dead is in the same universe as The Walking Dead. So any rule that we find out and anything they see in the early days is definitely something that was happening in the past of the other show. These two shows are very intertwined in the same world, even if their characters aren’t necessarily going to interact because of geographical distances. So yeah, anything that you learn from Fear the Walking Dead will apply to the mythology of The Walking Dead and vice versa. So you are going to get to see that the characters learn that they’re all infected in a much different way. But all the rules do apply and are the same. That will be some of the fun if you’re watching both shows.”

Showrunner Dave Erikson previously shed a little light on the plot of the new series, saying “We’re covering the period of time when Rick was in his coma, so we’re getting to see things go sideways in a way that he did not,” he stated. “… We’re telling our story through the filter of this highly dysfunctional blended family. It’s about the shark you don’t see. It’s the education of our characters as to what is going on and how the world is unraveling and what is happening to people.”

Fear The Walking Dead stars Cliff Curtis (Missing, Gang Related), Kim Dickens (Gone Girl,Sons of Anarchy), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm) and Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange is the New Black).
