PlayStation Mobile to Shut Down this Week

Sony’s PlayStation Mobile service will come to an end this Wednesday. For nearly three years, the service has provided an accessible platform for game developers to release mobile games on both the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation-certified mobile devices. Come July 15th, consumers will no longer be able to purchase items through the PlayStation Mobile storefront on any device. Previous purchases will be available for download via your device’s “Download List” until September 10th of this year. If you do not download your purchases before that date, you will lose them forever. Any games that are installed on your devices will remain playable until you delete them.

If you’ve been sitting on your hands waiting to purchase games from the PlayStation Mobile storefront, today is the day. Most games are but a few dollars. There are quite a few games that are free, including a few from Sony Computer Entertainment themselves.

It is likely that some games may find their way to other platforms in the future. Aqua Kitty: Milk Mine Defender is one such game, as it was updated and re-released as Aqua Kitty DX on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita last year. It is also equally likely that many games may never find a new home and will disappear along with the service.

Necrosoft Games’ Oh Deer! Alpha is one of the very last games to come to the PlayStation Mobile platform, released just a few weeks ago. It’s a paltry forty-nine cents, and is one of the coolest, quirkiest games available. If you’ve got a buck (!!) laying around, it’s definitely one you should pick up before Wednesday.

Look for more on the legacy of PlayStation Mobile later this week. Until then, download your games!

  1. It’s a shame ps mobile is getting shut down. It had plenty of gem games on it. Despite that fact, its shutting down, its at least giving people till September 10, to re-download, any game that they’ve purchased.
