Lupita Nyong’o to Make New York Stage Debut in ‘The Walking Dead’ Star Danai Gurira’s Play

Lupita Nyong’o is ready to take the New York stage by storm in Eclipsed, a play penned by The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira.

The play, written by Gurira, is set against the backdrop of the Liberian Civil War and follows the captive wives of a rebel officer as they join together and form a community…that is until a new girl shows up and potentially destroys everything.

“Danai Gurira has written a brilliant play, ripped from the headlines, that looks at the terrible conflicts in post-colonial Africa with an eye that is both incisive and deeply compassionate,” said the Public’s artistic director, Oskar Eustis, in a release. “A feminist reading of the Liberian Civil War, a war that was ended by women, Eclipsed is both heart-breaking and profoundly life-affirming. We are delighted to welcome the extraordinary Lupita Nyong’o to the Public in this vitally important play.”

We love seeing ladies working together to do something positive in the industry and this play is no exception.

If you want to catch Nyong’o in Eclipsed, previews begin at The Public Theater on September 29th, while the official opening takes place on Wednesday, October 14. Eclipsed will run through Sunday, November 8th.
