‘The Strain’ EPs Sticking to Five-Season Plan

The Strain will not go on forever. The show’s head honchos, Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse, have stated so in the past, and are still sticking to their five season plan.

Although the show has seen success on FX, Cuse and del Toro are determined to not pull a Game of Thrones and let the show take on a life of its own, surpassing the source material. During the Television Critics Association press tour Friday, the pair reiterated that there are no plans for the show to continue indefinitely.

“From the very beginning, we had really talked about the first book being the first season, the second book being the next two seasons and the third book the last two seasons. We’ve stuck to that game plan,” Cuse told the crowd.

Although the show has been renewed for a third season, even before its current second season is halfway finished, don’t look for high numbers to make del Toro change his mind and draw the story out past the book. “The way we see it is as a closed tale, and I’d very much like to keep it that way,” del Toro stated.

You can catch new episodes of The Strain, Sundays at 10pm on FX.
