Now This Is a Story: ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ Reboot Reportedly in the Works

UPDATED: Deadline has reported new information on the series. Their sources tell them that the new series will NOT be a reboot, but instead “a new show with new characters and a new setting, only sharing the general fish out of water family show concept with Fresh Prince.” We’ll keep you updated as we learn more information.

Looks like a new generation should prepare to get fresh! Reports of a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot are rumbling and we couldn’t be anymore excited!

TVLine has exclusively reported that the original Fresh Prince, Will Smith, is totally on-board with the reboot and will be assuming the role of producer on the project.

According to the site “Smith’s production shingle, Overbrook Entertainment, is in the very early stages of developing a present-day Fresh Prince reboot that puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series. (An official longline is still being hammered out.).” They’ve also confirmed that “a pitch is being finalized now and Overbrook will begin shopping it around in the coming weeks.”

The original series ran from 1990-1996 and starred Smith as the rowdy Philadelphia teen who changes his prestigious Bel-Air family’s lives when he’s sent out to California to live with them.

If the reboot pans out, it will be the latest in a long line of TV classics making their way back to air in revival fashion including Fuller House, The X-Files, Coach, Girl Meets World and plenty more!
