Former ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Star Nina Dobrev Says Goodbye to Elena at 2015 Teen Choice Awards

Nina Dobrev bid a heartfelt public farewell to Elena during last night’s Teen Choice Awards.

The actress left her starring role in hit series The Vampire Diaries after its most recent season and took the time to say goodbye to her currently sleeping character.

The 26-year-old took the stage to accept her surfboard for Choice TV Actress in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy, jokingly wearing fangs. As she began to speak, she took them out and tossed them down saying, “That’s right, I don’t need these anymore.”

“So the last few months have been a pretty big change for me,” she began. “Change…it’s a scary word, or at least, I used to think that because it meant new beginnings. New beginnings with a future that was unknown…but change is necessary. Necessary for you to grow and to learn and to better yourself,” she told the audience.

“As this chapter of my life comes to an end, I look back at it with a grateful heart and I smile. Because just like my character Elena, I started the show as a young girl, and together we grew up,” she emotionally said to the Teen Choice crowd. “We’ve grown up, and over the last six years we’ve become women.”
