‘The Strain’ Star Mia Maestro Lands Recurring ‘Scandal’ Role

The Strain star Mia Maestro will take a break from her vampire fighting days to take on the world of politics in Scandal.

The star has landed a mystery role in the hit ABC series, but according to Deadline, who broke the news, “the character Maestro will play is being kept under wraps.”

The actress currently stars in The Strain as Nora Martinez, former CDC scientist and parter of Corey Stoll’s Ephraim Goodweather.

Maestro’s addition to the cast comes not long after the announcement that recurring star Cornelius Smith Jr. was bumped up to a regular. Smith’s first appearance came in the emotional episode “The Lawn Chair”, which revolved around the wrongful death of a young, black man at the hands of crooked police officers (sound familiar…). Smith’s character Marcus Walker was a community activist who helped Olivia Pope open her eyes and nail the case shut.

He returned needing Olivia’s help, having been framed for the murder of the mayor’s wife, with whom he was having an affair.

Details surrounding Smith’s promotion have been kept secret as well.

Scandal‘s fifth season premieres Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9/8c on ABC. In the meantime, you can catch Maestro in new episodes of The Strain, Sundays on FX.
