Stefan and Damon Will Struggle with Mommy Issues When ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Returns

Things are about to get pretty complicated for the Salvatore brothers when The Vampire Diaries returns.

Stefan and Damon Salvatore are used to fighting their fair share of battles, but TVD‘s upcoming season will present the pair with a new kind of problem: their own family.

Fans met Lily Salvatore, the mother of Stefan and Damon, during season 6, but when Lily brings her band of Heretics to town, it will open up a new kind of wound for the brothers. “I think there’s definitely a sense of abandonment and hurt,” Paul Wesley previously said of the Salvatore brothers’ feelings towards Lily. “They’re wary of her, but then they’re also like…it’s that natural, internal- you naturally want to forgive your mom and just assume that she’s a great person and that she really did love you. That’s a natural thing, so I think Stefan’s going to be prone to forgiveness and naiveté as opposed to Damon who’s cynical and suspicious and wary of her.”

Speaking of Damon, Ian Somerhalder echoed Paul’s sentiment of how he’ll be handling Lily and her troublemakers. “It’s not cool at all that she left us and had this entirely new family that we’re not even a part of,” the actor told TV Line. “She treats us like we’re outcasts, like we’re the bastard children. There area lot of dynamics floating around, so I don’t know where Damon’s going to go from here.”

We hope the brothers will be able to find some kind of peace with their mom during the season, but as we all know The Vampire Diaries doesn’t exactly tie up stories with a nice pretty bow.

Guess we’ll have to wait until the show returns to The CW on Thursday October 8th.
