An ‘Animorphs’ Movie Is Reportedly in the Works

Calling all teens of the late 90s early 2000s! More of your childhood could be creeping up on you in the form of an Animorphs movie.

The project, that has been rumored for a while, and now various outlets (the first of which was The Tracking Board ) are reporting that the movie is gaining some traction, albeit slowly. Deborah Forte, who served as executive producer for the Nickelodeon’s Animorphs TV show, is said to be producing the movie via Silvertongue Films shingle.

In case you missed out on the book phenomenon that was Animorphs (in which case we’ll assume it’s because you weren’t born yet because any other reason is unacceptable), the series follows a group of five teens (Jake, Marco, Cassie, Rachel, and Tobias) whose lives are changed forever after they stumble across a spaceship with a dying alien inside. The alien grants them the power to shape-shift into any animal that they touch and the kids end up using their powers to fight the invasion of the Yeerks, a parasitic race of alien slugs who are trying to take over the world by inhabiting human bodies.

According to The Tracking Board, “the studio is now looking for a writer to script their take on the film, which is said to put a heavy focus on the sci-fi nature of the story. We’re also told that the studio is also interested in finding a capable writer/director with a knack for sci-fi, with Attack The Block scribe/director Joe Cornish and Ender’s Game writer/director Gavin Hood described as a template.”
