‘Once Upon a Time’ Star Lana Parilla Talks ‘Hero’ Regina

Regina Mills (Lana Parilla) has arguably had the biggest character transformation over the course of Once Upon a Time. A woman who quite literally started out as the Evil Queen from a fairytale will now have to become the de facto Savior around Storybrooke in hopes of saving the real Savior (Jennifer Morrison) from her own darkness.

Now that Emma is the new Dark One, everyone in Storybrooke will fight to save her and leading that fight is someone who has massive amounts of experience in the subject of darkness.

“Regina is going to the hero,” Parilla told Entertainment Weekly during an interview. “It’s really her journey of exploring that. It’s an immense amount of responsibility. We’ll see her evolving into this role and we’ll see where she ends up.”

“Regina is very experienced when it comes to crossing over into the dark side and committing evil acts,” the actress added. “She fears that the darkness is going to take over and Emma may never return back to her true self. She’s just worried — and worried for everyone, not just Henry [Jared Gilmore]. Everyone’s doomed.”

Not only will Regina head up the fight to save Dark Swan, but there’s also that little matter of her sister being pregnant by her true love, Robin Hood (played by Sean Maguire), a problem that Maguire says they’ll be facing together.

“There’s no confusion in my head playing him, he loves Regina and only Regina,” the actor told EW. “If anything, he’s more clear about his objective that he loves Regina. He sees Henry and Roland and her as a family now.”

See what’s ahead for Regina, Robin Hood and the rest of Storybrooke when Once Upon a Time returns to ABC, Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
