Syfy Cancels ‘Defiance’

Syfy has opted not to renew their original series Defiance. The network has canceled the series after three seasons, the last of which ended August 28 with 1.17 million total viewers.

The series starred Julie Benz and Grant Bowler and was set in a futuristic society when a fragile peace was been struck between humans and the aliens that invaded Earth decades earlier. But in the frontier town of Defiance, that peace is threatened. Also starring in the series was Conrad Coates, Tony Curran, Nichole Galicia, Graham Greene, Mia Kirshner, Stephanie Leonidas

Defiance was a truly groundbreaking series, delivering an immersive, cross-platform experience that transcended the television screen in a way that viewers had never seen before,” the network said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of the work of the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers – and especially showrunner Kevin Murphy – who together brought the rich world of Defiance to life over its three-season arc.”

The show’s boss and cast have already begun reacting to the news via social media:
