‘Empire’ Co-Creator Lee Daniels’ New Series to Film in Atlanta; International Talent Search Underway

Empire co-creator Lee Daniels’ new series Star is headed to Atlanta to begin production, but first they need their (you guessed it) stars.

The network announced today that the series will begin production this December in Atlanta, GA and they’re heading out on an international search to find the series talent, including three female leads who will play three young artists, all with hopes of making it big.

Star follows the story of three young women, all with hopes of making it big, and the choices they’re faced with along the way. It will showcase the allure and heartache of the cut-throat music scene, while also exploring cultural themes from a new perspective. What would you do to rise to the top?

The series would the latest addition to this year’s the growing list of shows to be set in the city, with Donald Glover’s Atlanta heading to FX and Will Packer’s Buckhead in development over at NBC.

Take a look at the current roles that are up for grabs below:

* Star, an 18-year-old white woman with a “badass attitude.”

* Alexandra, a black woman around the age of 20. Though she’s described as “elegant” and “classic,” she wants to abandon her “material world” in the hopes of making “real, authentic music.”

* Simone, 16, is Star’s half-white, half-black sister. She’s simply described as “tragic and adorable.”

* Cotton, 20, is a half-black, half-Spanish transgender woman with a “stunning look” and a “keen eye for fashion.”

The project is the first to emerge from Daniels’ multi-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television.
