American Horror Story: Freak Show star Rose Siggins has died due to complications from surgery at the age of 43.

According to TMZ, the actress went in to a Denver hospital for a kidney stone surgery on December 7th and ended up contracting an infection which ultimately became fatal.

Siggins, who suffered from sacral agenesis, a rare genetic disorder that affects development of the lower spine, was best known for her role as Legless Suzi in American Horror Story: Freak Show, but she had also appeared in a number of nonfiction specials to speak about her condition, including Born Different: Unbelievable Medical Conditions, Extraordinary People and Ripley’s Believe It or Not!.

We had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Rose during Dragon Con 2015 and she was not only an inspiration, but a humble, kind and strong woman. She greatly enjoyed her time on American Horror Story, and she told us that the show had an eye-opening effect on her, giving her a glimpse of just how far things have come for those born with disabilities. “For me it was that I was introduced to what it would have been like to have been born in the 1950s and how people were shunned-it really opened my eyes to what it would have been like back then and where I am now and how thankful I am,” she told us.

A GoFundMe account has been started by Rose’s management team to help care for her two children, as well as for recovery, medical, and any other related expenses.
