Guillermo del Toro in Talks for ‘Fantastic Voyage’ Remake
Guillermo del Toro is in talks to develop and direct a new version of sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage.
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed the Mexican director is poised to helm the project, which is being produced by James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment company, and has a script written by David Goyer, who penned del Toro’s vampire action film, Blade 2.
The original 1966 Fantastic Voyage starred Stephen Boyd and Raquel Welch, and centered on a group of scientists who are shrunk and sent in a miniature submarine inside the body of a man to save his life.
News of del Toro’s involvement comes after plans for a sequel to hit sci-fi action film Pacific Rim were “indefinitely delayed” to allow the director and his team to perfect the follow-up.
Pacific Rim 2 had originally been slated to hit theaters in August, 2017.
