X-Men Spin-Off ‘New Mutants’ Will Have a ‘Young Adult’ Vibe

New Mutants will be a standalone film in the X-Men series and will have a youthful “vibe.”

Set to be directed by Josh Boone, who helmed The Fault In Our Stars, the New Mutants will be based on the Marvel comic about a team of young mutant superheroes in training.

Simon Kinberg, a producer of the X-Men movie franchise, has given a brief update on the status of the new film, revealing the script has its own “original voice”.

“Josh Boone and his writing partner are working on the script,” he told film website IGN, adding that the huge success of Deadpool, which was released in February, was a touchpoint for writers.

“They’re doing a really nice job of it, and it’s a really cool one, because in many ways, like Deadpool was so different from the mainline X-Men movies, New Mutants… It’s maybe not as different as Deadpool, but it has its own unique, original voice to it.”

Producer Simon shared he was really enjoying working on the new film and different characters.

“That’s the fun for me, working in the X-Men universe, creating these sort of standalone movies that have a different vibe to them,” he shared. “And New Mutants has more of a YA (Young Adult) vibe to it.”

According to Hitfix, Game Of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams, The Witch‘s Anya Taylor-Joy and X-Men: Apocalypse‘s new Storm, Alexandra Shipp, are set to be the first recruits for the new film.

Simon also seems to confirm the idea that Storm or at least one of the new, younger versions of the mutants could pop up: “Traditionally, the New Mutants have some characters that cross over from the mainline X-Men movies,” he revealed. “As we are going, I would say it’s likely that you will see some familiar faces.”

New Mutants does not have a release date as yet, but X-Men: Apocalypse will be out on May 27, 2016!
