While Marvel will be filming exterior shots on location in Africa for its upcoming Black Panther film, studio work will be shot in Atlanta, Georgia. Producer Nate Moore revealed the news in an interview with the website The Undefeated.

“We’re definitely investigating shooting in Africa,” Moore revealed. “Both Marvel and Ryan [Coogler, the director] feel that would be really good for the movie.”

While South Africa and Morocco are the main hubs in Africa for large-scale production, Cape Town and Johannesburg are also rumored to be contenders for Black Panther filming. When it comes to Atlanta however, Marvel isn’t a stranger – having already shot two films there at Pinewood Studios (Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War). Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently filming in the city, and Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War are lined up to film there later this year.

The character Black Panther first made his movie debut in the newly released Captain America: Civil War. The film also teased an upcoming solo story for Black Panther which would further expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Filming for Black Panther will get underway on a pair of back-to-back Avengers: Infinity War sequels, which are scheduled to begin filming later this year in Atlanta.

We’ll keep you posted as more news on Black Panther filming surfaces!
