Tom Hanks Won’t Be In ‘Harvey’

According to reports, Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg will not be collaborating on the remake of the 1950 classic ‘Harvey’. Hanks has refused the role, and didn’t even read the script because ‘Harvey’ is “identified” with James Stewart, who starred in the original. Hanks simply didn’t want to be in a project so closely identified with the actor.

Fox and Dreamworks could begin filming as early as next year, and word is that this version will be closer to the original 1944 Mary Chase play than the 1950 film. Will Smith is still a possibility for the role, as his schedule is said to “coincide” with Speilberg’s.

‘Harvey’ revolves around a central character named Elwood that sees a 6 foot tall rabbit that is invisible to others and whether Harvey is real or not
