James Vanderbilt Hired For Spider-Man 5 & 6

According to reports, Sony Pictured has hired James Vanderbilt to write the scripts for Spider-Man 5 & 6. Vanderbilt wrote the original script for Spider-Man 4, which goes into production early next year and is set for a May 6th, 2011 release date. Sam Raimi reportedly didn’t “embrace” all of Vanderbilt’s ideas, which prompted a rewrite by David Lindsay-Abaire. Gary Ross is now rewriting that script. Executives at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios like Vanderbilt’s work, and he is now in charge of the 5th and 6th films, which will reportedly have an interconnecting storyline.

As of now it is unclear if Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst will be back for the 5th and 6th films. If they aren’t back, the scripts for the 5th and 6th films could be used as a blueprint for a franchise reboot.
