Star Trek Sequel News

Star Trek co-writer Roberto Orci has stated that so far, only two meetings have occurred regarding Star Trek 2.

“We haven’t decided anything but we’re starting to circle around some ideas,” he said. “We got a lot of fan response from the first one and a considerable amount of critical response and one of the things we heard was, ‘Make sure the next one deals with modern-day issues.’ We’re trying to keep it as up-to-date and as reflective of what’s going on today as possible. So that’s one thing, to make it reflect the things that we are all dealing with today.”

When asked if that meant that the movie storyline might address the war on terror, Orci said the following.

“Yeah, those are the kind of issues we’re talking about.”

  1. One of the things that made Star Trek a success in the 1960s was its not-so-subtle exploration of contemporary issues such as race relations, war, and religion. Hopefully the writers won’t see the need to make this another time travel episode, and they’ll actually write something clever and befitting the great legacy of Gene Roddenberry.
