Cronenberg May Reboot His Own Movie – ‘The Fly’

David Cronenberg, the director of the 1986 version of The Fly, is in talks to develop and direct a reboot of the film with Fox, the same studio that released the 1986 version. Cronenberg may even write the script. It’s pretty unusual to remake/reboot a film by bringing back the original film’s director.

Cronenberg has stated in the past that he did not want to be involved with a remake of The Fly, but he has obviously changed his mind now.

The 1986 film was too a remake of Kurt Neumann’s 1958 film and starred Jeff Goldblum as a scientist who transformed himself into a fly. The film became a huge hit for Fox, earning $40 million and turning into a phenomenon.

  1. The 1958 was great for the time. The 1986 film was great for its time. I don’t see the need for another remake, but maybe it will be great, too. Time will tell, it’s just that most of the new stuff is not worth a dime.
