‘Terminator’ Rights Might Be Sold

According to reports, Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, who own the rights to the Terminator franchise, are trying to work through bankruptcy. Due to that, they will be selling the partial or full rights off to the Terminator franchise. They acquired the science-fiction franchise in 2007 for $25 million, and produced Terminator Salvation. Any potential sale of the Terminator rights would have to be approved by a bankruptcy judge.

The rights to the franchise have changed hands a few times, as Hemdale Film Corp. sold the rights to Carolco Pictures and then to C2 Pictures before they were sold to Halcyon in 2007. This also slows down the hopes of Terminator 5, as when the rights are sold to new producers, it is uncertain if they will retain McG, the cast or the direction the franchise is currently going in.
