‘Anchorman’ and ‘Zoolander’ Sequel Updates

Last week it was reported that Paramount was passing on ‘Anchorman 2’, however it is now being reported that the project isn’t completely dead yet. Right now there is a $30 million budget gap that has to be dealt with.

Meanwhile, Ben Stiller posted the following on his Twitter last week alluding to the ‘Anchorman’ sequel as well as the ‘Zoolander’ sequel saying, “Ron Burgundy and Derek Zoolander looking to appear in sequels. Both men destitute, without means or intellect to fund their own comebacks.”

Insiders at Paramount want to make both sequels, but only if both films cost around $40 million each. ‘Zoolander 2’ is in development, but the ‘Anchorman 2’ team will not start a script unless Paramount moves the budget closer to $70 million.

Paramount isn’t desperate for the comedies because they recently made a deal with Sacha Baron Cohen on a new pitch that will pay him $20 million against 20% of first dollar gross. Cohen has proven himself as an overseas draw while ‘Anchorman’ only made $5 million overseas and ‘Zoolander’ did $15 million overseas.
