Doug Liman to Direct a ‘Three Musketeers’ Movie

A report says that Doug Liman (Bourne Identity) has signed on to direct ‘The Three Musketeers’ for producer Lionel Wigram (Sherlock Holmes) and Warner Bros. It is thought that the movie will be fast-tracked to be filmed in the fall.

The report adds that Warner wants the movie to have a similar approach to Sherlock Holmes, meaning it will have more of an edge, more action and will be more contemporary in order to draw in younger audiences.

Michael Robert Johnson, Peter Straughan and Bridget O’Connor adapted the Alexandre Dumas novel, which tells the story of D’Artagnan trying to become one of the French king’s Musketeers. He is mentored by 3 older Musketeers – Athos, Aramis and Porthos – and the group ends up taking on Cardinal Richelieu and Milady de Winter.

Two other Three Musketeers films are also in development. Paul W.S. Anderson is working on a 3D version, as is Millenium Films.
