If you're having trouble with anything on Fanbolt, please check The Guide to Using Fanbolt (http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7534) first.
I've noticed there's quite a few common questions that are asked that are not completely covered somewhere else, so I'll anwser any of them I see in here, and if it's not in the Guide, as well as in here, or you'd like it further explained, feel free to make a thread ;)

What are keeperlists?

Keeperlists are basically just a thread to claim something that you love on a certain subject, so that you're the one and only "owner" of it on the board. There's keeperlists on many different subjects, and they're all ran by members of the board. Before posting in a keeperlist to claim something, read how many things you can claim in the first post, and make sure what you want isn't taken. They also typically have you display what you keep in your signature, like many members have.
Also note that as of May 30, all keeperlists must be approved by that forums Moderator, a Super Mod, or an Administrator.

What exackly is this board about?

Fanbolt is an entertainment board and is about all things, mainly television, movies, and music. Fanbolt covers all the popular shows in their networks, as well as the minor shows. If the show you're looking for isn't on one of these networks (The WB, UPN, Fox, a sports channel, Sci-Fi), then it's most likely in Others. Movies are broken up into current releases (movies that are in the theatre, or will be soon) and general movies (older movies that are out on DVD, video). Music is broken down into Singers and Bands, and Songwriters (original lyrics, songs, poems, etc written by you).

What's with the funny names?

The funny names on Fanbolt are due to Fanbolt's main board theme of Hollywood. Basically, here's the low-down on the names:

Agent - The Agents are Fanbolt's Moderators. They take care of the forums, and enforce rules, etc.
Excutive Producer - Fanbolt has four of them. The Execs are the Super Moderators, and they are a lot like Agents, only with more power. They can Moderate all of Fanbolt.
Director - You may see a couple of Directors on the board. Basically, they're the Gods. They're the Administrators of the board, and they own it.

The forum names also go along with the Hollywood theme:

FanBolt.Com News - The whole site's basic news.
Auditions - Auditions is the one I think the most people have trouble with. It is not to get auditions for shows, but to introduce yourself if your new to the board.
The Director's Desk - To get help with things to do with Fanbolt, such as getting around the boards, signatures, and posts.
Requests - If you'd like to request a NightClub, forum, or pretty much anything else.
General Movie Discussion - Discuss older movies, that are out on DVD/video.
New Releases - Talk about new movies that are still in the theatre or haven't come out yet.
The WB - Talk about all the shows aired/previously aired on The WB.
UPN - Talk about all the shows aired/previously aired on UPN.
FOX - Talk about all the shows aired/previously aired on FOX.
Other - Any TV show that isn't shown on The WB, UPN, FOX, or Sci-Fi.
Sci-Fi - Talk about all the shows aired/previously aired on Sci-Fi.
Sneak Preview - Contains spoilers for upcoming episodes of the most popular shows.
Singers/Bands - Talk about your favorite singer or band.
Songwriters - Post original lyrics, songs, poems by you.
The Book Cafe - Talk about books, old or new.
Actors - Talk about your favorite actors, past and present.
Actressses - Talk about your favorite actresses, past and present.
The Tabloids - General discussion. Basically, anything that doesn't fit into any other forum.
Role Playing - Pratice your acting skills by joining one of Fanbolt's RPGs.
The Game Show - Play all those fun board games!
The ScreenPlays - Post any fanfics, poems, plays, etc. you've written here.
The Gallery - Post any layouts, fan art, etc. you're proud of here.
Sports - Talk about anykind of sport, sports team, etc.
Computer Cafe - Post links to your site(s), favorite sites, and talk about pretty much anything to do with computers in here.
Video Games - Talk about gaming systems, games, if you like them or not.
NightClubs - Fanbolt's Official FanClubs. Look through the rule threads to find out how to join and stuff, and have your fun in all the amazing clubs.
The Storage Room - All the old, closed threads go here.

I'm missing posts! What's going on?

Missing posts happen often. A thread could have been deleted (accidentally or not), a member with the first post in a thread could have deleted their post and K/Oed the thread, or your posts could have been considered spam by a Moderator/Super Moderator/Administrator. There's many ways to lose them, and there's really no way to get them back for you.

How many posts until my name changes?

Your name (Groupie, Extra, etc.) that shows up under your username will change after you've gotten a certain amount of posts. The name and post number is as follows.

0-49: Groupie
50-99: Struggling Actor
100-499: Extra
500-999: Intern
1000-1499: Commercial Actor
1500-1999: Daytime Soap Star
2000-2999: Daytime Talk Show Host
3000-4999: Prime-Time Actor
5000-9999: Hollywood Star
10000-24,999: Hollywood Elite
25,000-????????

What's reputation?

The reputation system is basically a way of rewarding people who make posts you enjoy. If someone posts something witty, or a great fanfic or an artwork you appreciate you can click on the reputation button and leave a comment with "I approve". You will enhance this users reputation and the visual bubbles will build up over time, pointing out those posters who consistantly make thoughtful or enjoyable posts and are an active part of the community.
It takes 100 points to go up a box for the first five boxes. After that, it's 200 points per box, for the next six boxes. The highest amount of boxes you can get is eleven. The number of points is different for all members. The more posts on Fanbolt the member has, the more their reputation is worth. New members, with only 10 or so posts will give you neutral reputation, although it only means they've given you a positive reputation, and they don't have enough posts for it to count towards the number of posts an older member has.

Is reputation and referrals the same thing?

Nope, they're completely different.
Referrals are the number of people you tell about Fanbolt (referring them) who join and put your username as their referral, while reputation is points given when someone likes a post you've made, and gives you reputation points for it.

What are avatars?

Avatars are the little pictures that go next to your posts, under your username, just to kinda identify members. To change yours, go to User CP > User Options and all the way at the bottom, you can change it. If there's nothing to your liking, you can try requesting something you like in the Avatar Request Thread (http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13754).

Can I have a custom avatar?

Members with 500 or more posts on Fanbolt are permitted to have a custom avatar. Please note that all avatars must still follow Fanbolt's rules. Avatars must be 85x85 pixels or smaller, and should be kept down in size. Any avatar breaking the rules is subject to removal. Members with less than 500 posts are not permitted to have a custom avatar, unless subject to winning a contest, etc.

Where are Fanbolt's rules located?

Fanbolt's rules are post here (http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/announcement.php?f=5), if you scroll down.

How many pages until a new thread is started?

After 10 pages (usually on the 11th), the Moderator of that forum will come close the thread, and start a part 2 (or 3 or 4...). Please do NOT start a continuation thread. Moderators are to do that, and if it's not done after a couple of days, simply PM that Moderator, or a Super Moderator.

When the board was hacked, everything was pretty much screwed up. A lot of posts were lost, and couldn't be brought back. As for your signature, it was was probably removed, due to being in HTML and not vB. HTML scripts can no longer be used in signatures. The board is just trying to get stable again, and I really apologize for the missing posts and everything, but we all doing all that we can.

No, you're totally ok posting here :)
I'm pretty sure if you just put your country in, like US, Ireland, Scotland, whatever, it'll give you the flag for that country. I think it's just getting confused with states the stuff people put there.

Thanks so much for your help!

Umm... there's like a drop down list in your profile... That's how I changed it.

I tried that and it said something like "you entered an invalid birrthday" and that birthday option was under the "optional" settings...hmmm

Hey Chloe, just a question, if we lost a club after the hacking do we tell someone about it to get it back or would we have to rejoin the club? Sorry if this is already answered somewhere

If they're not being watched, go ahead and start new threads for them, and just let me know, I'll come and give my stamp of approval and close the old ones. Just move the original list to the new thread :)
Thanks for asking!

Question: When I look at the members list we have a lot of members but when I look at the list tons and I do mean tons of people has 0 posts or 1. Is there anyway that those member could be deleted after a certain period of time? It makes it hard to go through the member list when most of the people signed up and never came back. I think it is just used up space. Is there anyway to fix this?

I was just reading that, and what if people go on vacation or are away from a computer for like a whole month, and they get deleted, I mean I get what you're saying about having to go through while you're looking for something, and all these people have no posts.

Chloe
08-17-2004, 10:53 PM
Well, there's other things you enter...it's pretty much:
delete members who joined x or later with x or less posts.
There's different things you enter so that only members with like, 5 posts or less, who haven't posted in months are deleted.

Hey Chloe, who filters the old threads that are going to go to the storage room? who saperates the OT threads from the rest? some of the games are getting filtered in and some arent, i was hoping if it was possible not to filter the games cause they are easy to earn posts.

Rjm7272
08-18-2004, 08:12 AM
Well.....I think some (or most probably) game threads are sent to the OT storage room for that reason...because they are so easy to get posts in...that's why a lot of ABC threads that were in Movies, or TV shows got moved to the game show forum, because at one point we were going through 2 or 3 of those threads in one day!

And the "filter?" I believe that that is the mod who actually moves the thread :)

Chloe
08-18-2004, 10:11 AM
Yep, the Moderators are the ones who move the threads :)
The games are sent to the OT storage because members were abusing them and posting over and over again, only to get their post count up. So we curve this by putting them in the games forum, and sending them to OT storage afterwards. Some threads are left in their regular forums, and those will be sent to OT storage, so the posts, I think, are subtracted from the member's post count.

freakygirl
08-18-2004, 01:40 PM
2 questions. i know names like intern, commercial actor, day time soap and hollywood star is dependant on how many posts you have. and i know that the mods have different names also like agent and excecutive producer but there are people with different names than that. one of the said registered user and others have names they made up themselfs like spiffy reporter. how did they do that?

Also, for the rep points, i thought all you could do was approve and disapprove. I got two that was neutral.

Chloe
08-21-2004, 02:10 PM
Registered User is usually someone who hasn't gotten their confirmation email yet, and therefore doesn't have full account privledges. Spiffy Reporter was a special name given to Chichen02, because she's part of the EverwoodOnline staff, and therefore Emma gave her her own name. Custom names aren't given out, unless it's a special circumstance :)
Yep, there's neutral reputation. It doesn't give you any rep points, but doesn't take any away. I guess it's just kinda...Useless?

hmmm, I thought I asked this - but can't find my post - so I probably didn't hit submit....

Is it okay to post lyrics here - as long as we credit the artist - and as long as it is on-topic?

Or is there some copyright law - that doesn't allow us to do that?

Thanks so much!!!!

Chloe
08-22-2004, 03:43 PM
You can post lyrics, as long as it's on-topic, like in the music forum (they have random lyrics) and you credit the artist. They don't check or anything, but it's always polite to credit them ;)

Um, I have one question. I just recently started to post again on Fanbolt and some things have changed since the last time I was here but my question is when I reply, it automatically subscribes me to that thread. What does it mean to be subscribed and if I unsubscribe does that mean that I cannot reply in the thread again? Or is subscribing just another word for replying? Thanks for the help in advance.

Chloe
08-22-2004, 10:53 PM
Subscribing means that in your User CP, it shows those specific threads, so you can get to them easier. You can unsubscribe in your User CP under Options (there's one that says something about subscribing to threads, I think). But that just means they just won't be remembered, but you can still reply to them :)

Melanie

oc_craze, if your account wasn't confirmed, meaning you didn't get an email with a confirmation link when you joined, and you can't send PMs or edit your signature, you have to simply email emma@fanbolt.com with the subject "FANBOLT CONFIRMATION" on the email, and give her your username and email address. Yep, like Rob said, Oscars are given out for donating to Fanbolt, winning contests, and also sometimes Emma has drives where if you get a certain number of member referrals (members joining and putting your name as their referer) and getting them to post in a certain amount of time, during non-drive times getting a certain number of members to join (I forgot how many lol), and there's another one I just suddenly forgot

I'm sorry to raise this after it was raised on page on, but I've tried writing both 'England' and 'UK' next to my location, and no flag has appaeared both times. I was wondering does there need to be a code before I write my location for a flag to show, or is it something more along the lines that I need to have been a member for a certain amount of time/posted a certain amount of posts!

I'm sorry as I hate to bug you all like this, but any help given would be really appreciated!

Edit: Now I feel like I have wasted even more of your time as it appears to be working now - I'm really sorry!

The thing next to the thread that says who's on it? Well, on the bottom of each thread, it tells you who's viewing it then, how many members, and how many guests.
Fanbolt is probably wigging out because Emma is working on some new stuff on the board. She's putting up new stuff, and changing tons of things around. It's nothing to worry about, just her adjusting :)
It's totally ok Caroline. If you go to options, there's an option to change your country flag. You just adjust that, and you're fine ;)

Might be just me... but I don't think I can see who is in a certain forum anymore. You know, when I am on the Everwood forums a box down the screen would tell me which other users are there (do you guys understand?). But anyway that box is gone... is that because board-settings changed or because I am on ghostmode?

That's what i asked above, turns out Emma is fixing stuff so it's gone for now.
