LOCATION: House, Sweet, House
THE SKINNY: It's a great day for watchers of great TV as SCRUBS-SEASON 1 and now Fox's hit medical drama HOUSE has announced a Season 1 DVD set due out August 30.

Season One of HOUSE, the new hit medical mystery drama starring 2005 Emmy-nominee Hugh Laurie as one of television's most intriguing characters, features all 22 episodes. The release is timed to the Season Two premiere on Fox on September 13.

Here's what the set has to offer:

With an operating room full of exclusive bonus features, the DVD collection gives fans a unique chance to dig deeper into the fascinating world of Dr. Gregory House and his team of bright young medical experts as they race against the clock to diagnose perplexing and life-threatening conditions. Extras include an interview with actor Hugh Laurie, the well-kept British secret who so perfectly portrays the wry American doctor, behind the scenes on the set of House, as well as a look at the real life medical cases that inspire the captivating stories from the series. House: Season One is priced at $59.98.

The brainchild of Executive Producers Katie Jacobs ("Century City"), Paul Attanasio (co-creator "Homicide: Life on the Street"), David Shore ("Family Law") and director Bryan Singer (X-Men, The Usual Suspects), House is "the uncommon cure for the common medical drama," according to TV Guide's Matt Roush.

A HEALTHY DOSE OF BONUS FEATURES

House: Season One is packed with bonus materials that enhance the experience of the hit show. Features include:

-- The Genius of Dr. House --
Interviews with Hugh Laurie, the producers and the cast

-- Real Life Medical Cases --
An inside look at the magical mix of medical facts and Hollywood fiction that make House one of the biggest new shows of the year

-- The Concept --
Interviews with the producers and creators of the smash hit House

-- Set Tour --
A close-up view of the hospital set where House is shot

-- House-isms --
A compilation of some of Dr. House's most outrageous and funny quips

Hugh Laurie stars as the brilliant and irreverent Dr. Gregory House, a maverick physician so devoid of bedside manner he prefers not to meet his patients. While his behavior often borders on antisocial, House's unconventional thinking and flawless instincts allow him to solve the medical puzzles that other doctors misdiagnose or simply give up on. Aided by a hand-picked trio of idealistic young specialists -- neurologist Dr. Eric Forman (Omar Epps), immunologist Dr. Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) and intensivist Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer) -- House does whatever it takes to save his patients while trying to avoid running afoul of hospital administrator Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein). Meanwhile, sexual tension between House and the show's female characters, including Cameron, Cuddy and his ex-girlfriend Stacy Warner (guest star Sela Ward), create volatile chemistry outside the medical lab.

Hugh Laurie. Laurie is the main reason the show has distinguished itself from the pack of other dramas. His wildly entertaining take on the broken but brilliant misanthrope that is Dr. House anchors the show. Laurie switches easily between the irreverent and the tragic; at one moment you're laughing at House's blatantly anti-PC blathering, the next you'll be feeling for this guy when one of his many flaws floats to the forefront, forcing him to face it and (usually not) deal with it.

This is a great show that does some entertaining and unique things with the hospital drama. Buoyed by a solid cast and a memorable lead, House, M.D.: Season One gets a clean bill of health. Fifty CC's of quality television, stat!

not all of it is good.....but here is what you can expect:
Apart from the aggravating dual-sided disc presentation, the set itself looks good. The artwork is simple but attractive. Open the case, however, and you'll be treated to a rather creepy panorama of all the doctors staring down at you, with less than friendly smiles on their face. I get the gag, but it's kind of unnerving. What I really miss is an accompanying booklet detailing the episode synopses. You'll have to navigate the menus on the discs themselves to learn the capsule summaries. And that's a pain.
But it's not all a negative diagnosis. Technically, this is the finest Universal set I've reviewed. Episodes are presented in a crystal-clear 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. The video quality is superb, and is matched by a surprisingly robust Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. Seriously, this is one of the finer technical displays for a television show I've seen in the digital realm.

I hate to backslide, but the bonus materials are sadly lacking. What's here—featurettes on Dr. House, the medical cases, the concept of the show, House-isms (smarmy utterings by the titular doc) and a set tour—are only decent. The extras seem more like promotional materials, featuring only snippets of interviews from the cast. Only the casting session with Hugh Laurie is the true standout; I can see why Bryan Singer was so enamored with his performance.

another great article about the DVD.........

Laurie Makes the 'House' Call

By Justin Rude

A s a concept there doesn't seem to be much going for "House, M.D." Fox's remix of the typical medical drama has a team of overachieving doctors facing a weekly medical mystery that they must race to solve. It seems so very "CSI" meets "ER." But Hugh Laurie's portrayal of the title character is so compelling that the show, which comes to DVD this Tuesday, is a study of how one dynamic character can make a prime-time network hit.

Let's not be misunderstood: Laurie makes the show. Without his eminently watchable turn as a crippled, antisocial, possibly sociopathic, painkiller-addicted but quite brilliant doctor, this would be just another white

lab coat snoozefest. Sure, a cool soundtrack and nifty special effects give the operating-table action a hip edge, and it is hard to fault the acting of supporters Omar Epps, Robert Sean Leonard, Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer -- but we've seen all that before in prime time.

Logically the DVD set focuses the balance of its bonus features on Laurie. The featurettes "Dr. House," "The Concept" and "House-isms" each look at the character and the show (there is no real need to differentiate) from a different angle, while footage from Laurie's casting session illuminates how early he took command of the role.

Two other extras, "Medical Cases" and "Set Tour" take a look at the show's filming and its real-life story inspirations. These are the weakest of the set.

As the 22 installments of the drama's first season unfold across the set's three discs, the show's other characters become stronger. That's good news for the show's future: As great as Laurie is as Dr. House, it's questionable whether his performance alone can sustain the program.

I loved the Extras! Even though they didn't get geat reviews!
How cool was it that they included Hugh's audition tape?
He totally had house pegged!!! He's so maxing!
I keep watching it over and over....

There's a great review that came out today.....here's a snippet :D

House was my only appointment TV of the 2004/05 season. I haven't been this engaged by a series since the first few seasons of The West Wing. I haven't been this fascinated by a character since ... ever. Add witty dialogue, thought-provoking issues, and intelligent humour, and we've been given one of the most refreshing shows around, taking a familiar life-and-death premise and injecting new life into it.

Ok so here is the rest of the great review! >>> Review: House, M.D. Season 1 DVD (http://blogcritics.org/archives/2005/09/01/062333.php)

I have not seen it yet, only bits a pieces, maybe one full episode. I have seen both new episodes from the new season and love it so far. I am just concerned about the content. I know that since it deals with medical procedures and things of that nature that there will be some surgery and other medical stuff shown that might scare or "gross out" little kids and may not be suitable in that regard, but what about sexual content or other things that may not be suitable? What is your opinion?

I think that for smaller kids, parents need to monitor what they watch .... but if your a teenager who can watch whatever is on TV, then it's your decision what you choose to watch... HOUSE is syndicated, so they're not going to show something that you'd find on cable, for example. :)
