Dem 'Bones' Connected to Strong Ratings
(Wednesday, September 14 02:48 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) FOX's "House" proved Tuesday that it was more than just a timeslot hit, but that isn't too surprising. What is worthy of a raised eyebrow is the strong debut for "House's" new companion.
"Bones," a cops-and-scientists procedural starring David Boreanaz ("Angel") and Emily Deschanel, captured a meaty 10.7 million viewers with its debut Tuesday (Sept. 13), the first night of the new season to feature premieres on more than two networks. The WB also started its season with a nice push, while "The Biggest Loser" delivered decent but hardly spectacular numbers for NBC.

The story of the night, though, was the FOX duo of "Bones" and "House," which grabbed the night's biggest audience -- 15.9 million people. "Bones," which also averaged a 3.9 rating in the ad-friendly adults 18-49 demographic, more than doubled FOX's 8 p.m. Tuesday audience from last fall and clocked in as the most-watched Tuesday drama premiere on the network since "24" launched in 2001.

"House" also made a huge leap from its modest debut last season -- again, no surprise, considering its swift rise once it was paired with "American Idol" in January and the solid ratings summer reruns had delivered. But the premiere's 15.9 million viewers and 5.9 adults 18-49 rating are better even than the show's full-season average from last year, post-"Idol" episodes included.

'Bones,' 'War at Home' Get Full Seasons on FOX
(Wednesday, October 12 01:49 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) FOX has picked up two more of its freshman series for full seasons, adding nine more episodes to both "Bones" and "The War at Home."
Both have performed reasonably well in their time periods, helping the network enjoy a much more successful start to the 2005-06 season than it did last year. Both are set to return to the schedule after FOX finishes broadcasting baseball's World Series.

Through its first three episodes, "Bones" has averaged about 8.7 million viewers per week and a respectable 3.1 rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic. The show stars Emily Deschanel as a forensic anthropologist who teams with an FBI agent (David Boreanaz) to solve crimes.

Its ratings could get a major boost come January if FOX sticks with its previously announced plan to place "Bones" in the post-"American Idol" timeslot.

Boreanaz Makes No 'Bones' About Being Happy
(Friday, October 28 07:37 PM)
By Kate O'Hare
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) His appearances as a soulful vampire on Joss Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and his own spin-off, "Angel," made David Boreanaz a star. But Whedon -- a writer, director and producer -- believed that the actors on his shows should say their lines only as written.
Now the star of FOX's freshman forensic drama "Bones" (recently picked up for a full season), Boreanaz plays FBI Agent Seeley Booth, who partners in crimefighting with forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), whom he refers to as a "squint" (a nickname for scientists, who "squint" a lot in their work).

Created by Hart Hanson ("Joan of Arcadia," "Judging Amy"), and based on characters created by novelist and forensic anthropologist (and show producer) Kathy Reichs, "Bones" returns to the schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 8 p.m. ET, after a break for the World Series.

As Booth, Boreanaz gets to play around with his lines, which is a big change from his "Buffy" and "Angel" days.
"That became very frustrating," he says. "For an actor to be able to create and also have a sense of freedom, you have to be able to revolve around those words and create around those words. Now, you can take the written word and have your subtext tell more than is written on the page, which is always fun and challenging too. But it's always great to revolve around the words and improvise and change things, because that comes from the character's perspective and point of view.

"Ultimately it comes from the writer, but it's the actor who breathes life into the character and makes it real. Having Hart to allow us to do that, it's a blessing."

"Yeah," Hanson says, "all we do is edit it back to what the script was. We're very upfront about it, 'Do it this way. Do it your way.' In fact, I'm lying; sometimes we do it his way. He has a rhythm that really works for him, so we use it.

"The poor people who have to say it exactly as scripted are the squints. They speak in perfectly formed sentences without hesitation because their IQs are so high, whereas Booth is a normal human being."

On this day on the sleek, modern set of "Bones" at 20th Century Fox Studios, Boreanaz does his rehearsals in a white gym shirt and shorts, and rainbow socks. He then switches to his dark suit for filming, but the rainbow socks stay.

"It's always something," Hanson says. "His tie is always a little off. His socks are a little off. His boxers are a little off. That's a character thing. We've only shown the boxer shorts once, when they had to drop their pants to get their shots. He was wearing Santa Claus boxers."

After seeing Boreanaz carry the weight of the world as Angel, who always seemed to be staving off one apocalypse or another, it's fun to watch him having fun as Booth, from the socks to the odd objects that he sequesters in his pockets. These include dice, which he pulls out and fingers behind his back, grinning mischievously, on his way into a take.

"I love Booth's double takes," Boreanaz says, "and his sense of style. I always tend to have some kind of homage to Steve McQueen. I have such an admiration for him and hold him in high regard, as somebody who represented the classic American kind of actor. So it's really been a gungslinging kind of role for me."

Of course, at this point in the show's brief history, the feisty Brennan seems to have beaten up more guys than Booth has.

"Well," Boreanaz says, "I carry a gun. Maybe that speaks more volumes. I can have an Indiana Jones moment, just shoot the guy."

Boreanaz reveals that there are a few revelations coming up about Booth's character. "One of the curses for him, a vice, is that gambling is going to come up in his life. I know he was a gambler, and he lost a lot when he was gambling, so it's something I find interesting, rather than prescription drugs or alcohol.

"He's so particular. He's very patient. He was a sniper. He analyzes things like he analyzes his betting sheet or his crap tables. I think he's definitely one for the ponies. He plays casino games.

"Also, he's going to have an illegitimate kid. Those are things that are turning him into the way he is. He can't see his kid, he wants to see his kid, but he's not allowed because of certain circumstances. That's all good stuff."

In Reichs' novels, which also feature Temperance Brennan, she dates a cop (a different character from Booth) who has a child. Interestingly enough, that didn't inspire Hanson to add this particular plot twist -- it was seeing Boreanaz with his own young son.

"He's so wonderful with him," Hart says. "I wanted to see that in Booth."

Even with all these complications, for Boreanaz, Booth remains a simple creature.

"I've said this before, he eats the cheeseburger, the cup of coffee, the meatloaf special, the apple pie a la mode. He's got a sense of nostalgia in him. He's a man of the past in many ways, and his past revolves around the '50s and '60s.

"There's a lot of that in me. I really enjoy that era. I enjoy that style. I enjoy the way films were made back then. It was a very romantic, enchanting time. It was pretty simple, I like that."

The Leg Is Rotten. The Poster Isn't.
So now the new Fox forensic drama, Bones, is running on Sky One over in the UK.
http://eschenck.typepad.com/ernie_schenck_calls_this_/images/512skyone_2.jpg

A poster promoting the new series is getting some attention. Not all of it good.

British creative, Trevor Beattie of FCUK fame, did the poster which shows actor, David Boreanaz, looking at Bones co-star, Emily Deschanel, who's holding a boot with a rotting shin bone poking out of it. The headline reads: "Their eyes met across the decomposing corpse of a homicide victim."

Personally, I don't see a problem here. That's right. Me, the Creative No-Fly Zone guy. Why is that? Because the idea is organic to the show. Show me a dead guy's putrefying leg in the service of a forensics TV show and I'm cool with that. Show me that same putrefying leg in the service of, say, cranberry juice and now I've got a problem.

Still, a number of viewers in the UK have filed complaints about the Sky One poster. What do you all think?

'Firefly' star Adam Baldwin makes his 'Bones'BY KATE O'HAREZap2it.comIt's a small TV world after all, especially if you're Adam Baldwin.
The deep-voiced actor went from playing the volatile mercenary Jayne Cobb on Fox's short-lived sci-fi/Western "Firefly" (a role he reprised in the movie version, "Serenity"), executive-produced by creator by Joss Whedon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and Tim Minear, to a five-episode stint on The WB's "Buffy" spin-off, "Angel."
Whedon created that show with David Greenwalt, and for a while, it was executive-produced by Minear, who created Baldwin's next show, Fox's short-lived crime drama "The Inside."
Also an executive producer on "Angel" was Jeff Bell, who has just signed on to executive-produce Baldwin's ABC/Touchstone pilot "Day Break." A murder mystery with elements of "Groundhog Day" and "Memento," the drama stars Taye Diggs, whom Baldwin says is a friend of Jay Harrington, who co-starred on "The Inside."
And, directing the "Day Break" pilot is Rob Bowman, who directed for the "The X-Files" series, on which Baldwin played the mysterious Knowle Rohrer for several episodes.
In between all of this, Baldwin found time to stop by Fox's witty crime procedural "Bones," which stars "Angel" himself, David Boreanaz, as FBI Agent Seeley Booth.
In "Two Bodies in the Lab," airing Wednesday, Baldwin plays FBI Agent Jamie Kenton, who is assigned to protect Booth's informal partner, forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), after an assassination attempt.
"David Boreanaz, he went to bat for me," Baldwin says. "Basically, there were other people, and they said, `What about him?' And David said, `Yeah, yeah, I worked with him on "Angel."
"He's a nice guy. We had the same acting coach in common as well, so we had something to chat about. I also lost $20 to him on the Super Bowl. We had a good time. He's in great shape, and he was trying to push me around, but I'm still bigger. It's all good-natured stuff.
"He's a really good-humored, good-natured guy, very prepared, willing to cut it up and improv a little bit here and there."
Just as a bonus, Baldwin also found common ground with Deschanel, whose father is acclaimed cinematographer Caleb Deschanel.
"Her dad shot `The Patriot,' which I did," says Baldwin, "so we were able to talk a little about that. We got along great."
Although he's "branching out now to ABC," Baldwin still keeps in touch with his "Firefly" buddies, including star Nathan Fillion.
"We just had a party over at Nate's house," he says, "and Joss showed up, so we had some nice reminiscences. He's still down in the salt mines writing `Wonder Woman,' and when he will finish with that, we don't know. I have no idea what's in his head."
As to whether Kenton might make a return appearance on "Bones," Baldwin

Thursday, 9.30pm, Seven Network
David Boreanaz makes his TV return in new crime drama Bones

Best known as the vampire with a soul in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and its spin-off series, Angel, David Boreanaz is back on TV, playing a human this time. In Bones, David is Special Agent Seeley Booth, a former army sniper who teams up with forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) on baffling murder investigations.

How does it feel being in such a different show from Angel?
It feels great. It's refreshing that it really is something new and he's a great character because he has so much going for him, and has a lot of depth.

Do you stay in touch with any of your old co-stars from the Angel days?
No, it's done.

What did you know about the world of the FBI? How did you research the role?
I spent a lot of time with Mike Rosso from the LAPD, who's been with the force for 25 years. I trained with him and went through the scenarios and procedures of entering and exiting crime scenes. I then applied that to the character, while maintaining a sense of where Booth comes from. His grandfather was in WWII, his father was in the army and his relationship with his past has to be off-balance with his militaristic standpoint. I think that's what gives him an edge.

In this week's TV WEEK, David reveals whether love could be on the horizon for Booth and Brennan and how he copes with the series' gruesome crime scenes. And meet the real-life Temperance Brennan: best-selling author Kathy Reichs!

FOX Rattles Them 'Bones' for Second Season
By Kate O'Hare, Zap2it
August 30 2006

Emily Deschanel and David Boreanz on 'Bones'As season one of the FOX drama "Bones" concluded last spring, forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) discovered that her long-missing parents were not who she believed they were; that her name was actually Joy Keenan; that her brother, Russ (Loren Dean), had long kept painful secrets; that her mother was, in fact, dead; and that her father was, in fact, not.

As if all this weren't tangled enough, season two, which launches Wednesday, Aug. 30, throws a wheelbarrow full of additional wrenches into Brennan's already complicated private life, her professional life at the Jeffersonian Institute (the show's fictional version of the Smithsonian) and her not-quite-romantic relationship with her partner in crime solving, FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz).

To start with, Brennan and her "squints" (Booth's nickname for scientists) get a new boss, federal coroner Dr. Camille Saroyan (Tamara Taylor, signed on for at least six episodes), who matches Brennan's scientific skill with a more focused attention on crime.

"Cam is a coroner," series creator Hart Hanson says. "She's been the coroner of New York. She makes cases. She has a cop's mentality. Temperance Brennan and her squints are all about finding the truth, and those are slightly different things.

"Cam would never fake anything to get anyone, it's nothing like that, but she's focused on getting the bad guy, so she's very efficient in her investigations. Brennan tends to go all over the place looking at all the clues and then deciding what they mean. So it gives them lots of good conflict."

Also, it turns out that Cam and Booth have met before. "They have, in fact, slept together before," Hanson says. "They have a history, so that gives us a great triangle."

"She's authoritative and straight to the point," Taylor says, "and really good at her job. She's funny, not cold and impersonal. She's got a lightness about her as well. She's a fun-loving, brassy gal that also is completely professional.

"We never really know what Cam and Booth's relationship was, but we know they had one."

"So there's this competition," Deschanel says, "personal and professional, and jealousy that happens. It's fun to work with."

As Booth juggles these two women, a third is thrown into the mix -- the mother of Booth's child, played by Jessica Capshaw, who appears in the second episode.

"I'm not saying who," Hanson says, "but Booth does end up in the sack with someone. He's a loving, passionate man who's there to help women."

"Is it the beginning of a downfall for Booth?" Boreanaz says. "Maybe. Will he encounter some anger management courses? Maybe. These women who come back in his life, they obviously represent something of his past that he was comfortable with at some times, uncomfortable at other times, and he has to deal with it.

"He's got to deal with his son more because of her, and he's got to deal with this girl who is now coming in as an adversary at the Jeffersonian. So it makes for interesting drama."

"Magnificent David," Hanson says. "When he faces Brennan, there's one kind of sexual chemistry. If he turns around and faces Cam, there's a different feel to it."

"With Cam," Deschanel says, "Booth has to stand up for Brennan. It's sweet to see him do that. He's not always going to do that, but when it comes down to it, he's on her side, and she's on his side."

With two ex-lovers and one not-quite-lover, Booth doesn't seem to be totally in tune with the idea of commitment.

"No," Boreanaz says, "he's not. He's dancing around. Here's a guy who's trapped in this FBI outfit, and he wants to exercise some of that. Things start to crash around him a little bit. His gambling might sneak up again. Things like that might cause a bit of destruction to his character, to his relationship.

"He holds his relationship with Brennan very dearly, so for something to mess that up, he'd have to go somewhere very dark. The whole show, for me, is my relationship with her. The show, to me, is the two of us, me taking care of her and being a gentleman and really holding that relationship close to my heart."

And Brennan might need to lean on Booth, because Hanson promises the return of brother Russ and more revelations about their father.

"The cliffhanger from last season," Hanson says, "will play out all through this season, which is, where is Brennan's dad, what's he doing, and what happened back in the day? In the beginning, it's, is he even a good man? There's a reveal in the season opener that makes him look like a very bad man. He will definitely show up at some point."

On its surface, "Bones" is an episodic drama about solving crimes, but Hanson says it's much more of a balancing act between procedural and character elements.

"If you don't like the humor or the two leads in 'Bones,'" Hanson says, "you don't like the show. Some shows are just safer. Our show is more of a gamble. It's a more specific taste than something like '24,' certainly than the procedural shows, where you know exactly what you're getting.

"We can't go full soap, and we certainly don't go full procedural. Every episode, we walk that line. I think we've gotten better at it. We should, after 22 episodes, begin to know what we're doing, and I think we have. The season opener looks very good to us."

"To me," Boreanaz says, "it's always been about character work and relationships. I could give a rat's ass about the procedural stuff. That doesn't do a thing for me."

Bones: More of Your Burning Questions Answered!
by David A. Keeps

Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, Bones
As part of the exclusive cover story appearing now on newsstands, TV Guide asked fans of Fox's Bones (Wednesdays at 8 pm/ET) for the questions they most want answered. Within the pages of the new issue, David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel and other cast members address 18 looming queries. Here, executive producer Hart Hanson himself tackles several more pressing topics.
Q: I read David Boreanaz talking about Booth having a nervous breakdown. True?
Hart Hanson: I’m not sure I would call it a breakdown, but there is an incredibly inappropriate piece of behavior on his part. Booth has to talk to the departmental psychiatrist after a death with which he is involved. We will also see some of the origins of his gambling addictions, but I’m not willing to tell you yet what they are. We saw a little bit of that in the dress-up episode in Vegas.

Q: Will we see Brennan and Booth get together?
Hanson: We will see everything we can do to put them together without them getting together for as long as we can pull that off. We’re going to place them in romance's way as much as we can, but we think we have quite a ways to go. They will actually have to go into partners/couples counseling because of a range of things. And then, as they are to one degree or another involved in each other’s romantic lives at separate times, they find themselves being there for the other, and they may end up discussing things that they probably wouldn’t willingly discuss about love, romance, and especially sex.

Q: If Brennan and Booth won't actually be getting together, are you considering any kind of "daydream" sequence?
Hanson: We consider it. There are a whole bunch of techniques for building up the pressure and releasing it. One is, you think it’s happening, and it’s just a dream. You’ve seen that a million times. We haven’t done it yet, because we haven’t felt the need to let off that pressure that way. I think that the Hodgins/Angela relationship lets off a little of that building pressure.

Q: Why are the fan boards so mean toward Cam (played by Tamara Taylor)?
Hanson: She shook things up, like, "Here comes the new person into our tight group," and people don’t like that. Let me say that for all those who hate Cam, she has to jump over a few hurdles, so they should be pleased by that. But we’ve also seen the characters change their attitude toward Cam as she becomes more a part of that group, and now she feels like one of them. I think that the viewers are going to take to her even more.

Q: Is the "Angelator," which Angela uses to create holograms of dead people's faces, based on any real technology?
Hanson: I’ve seen us get slaughtered for the Angelator, and the fact is, the technology exists. What we can be faulted for is the fact that we would have one in a lab to use it for the things that we use it for. They’re massively expensive, and there are not a lot of ‘em [in existence] — maybe a dozen. We got the idea from one that specializes in weather and tries to forecast hurricanes.

Q: Is real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs, who inspired Bones, ever going to be in one of the episodes?
Hanson: She is in an upcoming episode [airing Dec. 13 and directed by The X-Files' David Duchovny] playing a member of Zach’s dissertation committee. She doesn’t like him; that’s all I’ll say about that. [See TVGuide.com's recent Q&A with Reichs about her drop-by.]

Q: Has Reichs ever been concerned that aspects of the show may not be up to her scientific expertise?
Hanson: She looks at every script, and we listen to her. But we’re very accurate, and so far we have not made her angry. You do not want to make her angry. She’s tough. She knows how to get rid of bones. For instance, feeding bodies to pigs is a brilliant way, because pig poop does not retain DNA. And they’ll eat anything.

Q: Who is the goofball on the set?
Hanson: TJ [Thyne, Hodgins] and David are the most focused, but when they snap, they snap big. Emily and Eric [Millegan, Zack] are the most hair-trigger ready to burst into song. Eric's Michael Jackson impersonation is just a horrible thing to behold, unless you like Michael Jackson, in which case it’s wonderful. Emily’s Borat is spot-on. TJ can imitate non-famous members of the crew, and it’s crushing to be imitated by him. They are all horribly disgusting talented people who can do a million things.

Q: Is Bones moving to a new time slot come January?
Hanson: No, we’ll stay at 8 o’clock on Wednesdays, preceding American Idol. It’s good for the whole network when American Idol comes on. Those American Idol people — they know what they are doing. Michaela [Conlin, Angela] has been there, and I think they have guards to keep Eric from running up on to the stage. They love American Idol.

Pick up the Nov. 20 TV Guide for our exclusive Bones cover story.

'Bones' to Integrate Viewers in Murder Mystery Plot
Five-Week Campaign Kicks Off Wednesday, April 4 on Fox.com and MySpace

April 4, 2007

Viewers Have Chance to Follow Clues to Decipher Who Victim Will Be And Who Committed Fictional Murder

In an unique integration, the FOX series BONES, in conjunction with Fox.com, has created a comprehensive online world that will parallel the characters and storyline of the upcoming episode "The Glowing Bones in the Old Stone House" airing Wednesday, May 9 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Eighteen MySpace (http://www.myspace.com) profiles have been created to mirror the characters in the episode, and the MySpace pages will be live and accessible through Fox.com (http://www.fox.com and http://www.fox.com/bones) beginning Wednesday, April 4 at noon PT. Additional promotional content related to the character profiles and episode storyline will be available on Fox.com.

In the episode, written by BONES executive producer Stephen Nathan and directed by Caleb Deschanel, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) are called in by Homeland Security to investigate potentially radioactive remains, which are emitting a green glow at the crime scene. Brennan's team at the Jeffersonian joins her and Booth in pursuing the murder mystery, which leads them to a group of friends who are shocked to discover that one of their own is the victim. During the course of the investigation, the characters' MySpace pages become a virtual tool for the Jeffersonian team's search for answers.

In-depth MySpace pages on characters will include personal blogs referencing the episode's storyline, as well as photos and videos that reveal details about the characters' relationships and insights into their personalities. These profiles will enable viewers to immerse themselves in the characters' world and gather clues as to the identities of both the fictional victim and the murderer.

Personal blog postings and ancillary pages will be updated in real time, multiple times per week, throughout the campaign leading up to the episode – enabling viewers to gather new information, clues and hints on a regular basis. Each profile cross-references the others, creating a parallel online version of the episode's storyline, with characters commenting on each other's pages, blogs, images and videos.

BONES is from Josephson Entertainment and Far Field Productions in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Barry Josephson, Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan are executive producers.

I'm so glad to read that Player Under Pressure will air in Season 3 - not only should it be a good show just because it's a Bones episode, but it IS the finale!

Thanks for the update,

Bones/Vanished crossover?

Korbi on Eonline:

"Do you remember that Vanished show with Gale Harold from last season that vanished from the airwaves? I hear that the mystery from that show is going to be resolved on Bones this season. Fabulous, yes?"

Source: Watch with Kristen (http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/detail/index.jsp?uuid=b6b0215b-0f28-4bd0-b8c9-a887bd0e4d61#commentstart)

Okay I never watched Vanished, but isn't that the show with some huge conspiracy (divinci code like?), guess it's right down Hodgin's alley. Strange... I just talked about how Bones really needed to do a crossover (House would of been better). This is good for Vanished fans who didn't get a conclusion. Fox, ...are you trying to mend your ways?

David at the death march :D
Boreanaz's Funny 'Bones'

This little leg-pull courtesy of Dave, from the Bones panel during last week's Television Critics Association Conference showed up in the Washington Post. (They don't call it the Death March With Cocktails for nothing.)

Boreanaz's Funny 'Bones'
Lisa deMoraes, Washington Post

During a Summer TV Press Tour Q&A session for Fox's returning drama series "Bones," star Emily Deschanel, who plays Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan, was asked if she reads Kathy Reichs's books on which the show about a forensic anthropologist are based.

Deschanel said she had read them, and that the character in the TV series is "very different" from the Temperance Brennan of the books "so it gets very tricky."

"I read the books," jumped in David Boreanaz, who plays Special Agent Seeley Booth, Bones' crime-detection/sparring partner/possible love interest.

"No, you don't," Deschanel said.

"Yes, I do," Boreanaz replied.

"No, you don't," Deschanel persevered.

"I do, too. I read the books," Boreanaz insisted.

"Really?" show exec producer Stephen Nathan asked, skeptically.

"Oh yeah, that's right, you read the books all the time," Deschanel said, dripping with sarcasm.

"I give you all the insight into all the books," Boreanaz told her, accusingly.

"Well, David, since you read the books - " one critic began.

"Yes, what would you like to know?" Boreanaz asked politely.

"How about the psychology of your character -- how you're playing him vis-a-vis what you're reading in the books?" the critic asked.

At this point Boreanaz began to vamp like vamp has seldom been done at a Summer TV Press Tour. Boreanaz didn't just vamp -- he re-defined vamp:

"I'm an FBI guy, so my experiences are pretty much in tune with what's going on relatively in my life, if that makes any sense to you, as far as portraying a character that makes sense in the moment and basically focusing on a relationship that I can have with Bones here," he began.

"In order to get that relationship sparked and get that relationship moving, the two of us work very hard on the weekends in order to find that chemistry, find what works between the two of us and apply that. For me, it's always character-driven stuff that allows me to kind of examine Booth -- examine him in his situations, examine him in his scenes, whatever the writers put out there for us. So for me, it's always developing the character through the relationship that's -- stuff that's going on in my life."

Here's where series creator Hart Hanson felt compelled to step in:

"Does it make me sound too cranky if I say that the series is not based on the books? Because the series is not based on the books. Booth is not in the books."

"He's not in the books at all," Deschanel chimed in like she meant it to sting.

"I thought I was," Boreanaz said. "I thought I was the mystery man. Isn't there, like a mystery man in the book or something.

"There's a French Canadian cop," Hanson said.

"Oh, okay -- I didn't even know there were books," Boreanaz confessed.

Bones joins MysteryTV lineup in Canada

Mystery TV gets a makeover
CanWest MediaWorks has pumped a new on-air look into its Mystery TV digital network today, and a new website for the property will launch this fall. The new elements, created with CanWest by Winnipeg-based Systematic Design, include a streamlined graphics package which can display visual representations of the crucial events that have led to a solution in a crime or suspense scenario.

The website, MysteryTV.ca, will launch in the fall, and a Mystery TV campaign will target digital TV customers through interactive program guides, newspapers and other CanWest TV distribution partners.

New additions to the specialty channel's fall sked will include Las Vegas and Bones, while returning shows on the list are Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: CI, House, NCIS, Shark and Numb3rs (pictured).

Mystery TV recently ranked #1 in digital networks for the F18-34, F18-49 and F25-54 demos in Canada, according to BBM/Nielsen ratings for January 8-May 27. It took #1 among digital networks for the A25-54 demo, as measured by BBM/Nielsen from March 26-July 1.
