I just noticed that there wasn't a Logan Appreciation thread...Who loves Matt/Logan?

I was channel surfing the other day and I saw Matt, so I decided to watch Eight Legged Freaks. When his scene was finished, I changed the channel quickly-I've got arachnophobia, lol. I just love Matt!

I had a terrible time getting this picture here. My computer was acting up and had to be put to sleep for a few minutes (restarted it for its own good).

I want Logan to be good for Rory; and I want her to be an inspiration for him to "want to be a better man." This quote is from the movie "As Good As It Gets." Jack Nicholson's character said it to Helen Hunt's character when he declared his love for her. I think Logan is so cute and good to Rory. What happens when his love is tested remains to be seen.

Im so glad that Matt was cast as Logan. He's perfect for the part. And now he's finally getting the exposure as an actor that he deserves. :)

^ Let's all hope he moves to bigger things after Gilmore Girls. This guy is indeed a good actor. I think this is the best actor (up to date) to a play a boyfriend for Rory.

I just read this article (http://www.quchronicle.com/media/paper294/news/2005/10/26/Artsentertainment/gilmore.Guy.With.Local.Ties.Makes.Name.In.Hollywoo d-1033398.shtml?norewrite&sourcedomain=www.quchronicle.com), and don't think I've seen it here. I thought you might like it, too.
Well, I tried the link and it took me to a registration page. I copied the link right from the article entitled Gilmore Guy With Local Ties Makes Name in Hollywood, dated Oct. 26, 2005. He talks about the scene he filmed with Alexis and Milo.

lol. yeah, I know!!! Dont tell Colin. ;)
I want Logan to be good for Rory; and I want her to be an inspiration for him to "want to be a better man."
Dont you think she has been? If he hadnt become "a better man" he would still be sleeping around, like his dad does on his mom. But he isnt. Hes completely commited to Rory.

11-06-2005, 09:30 PM
^ Well, a person always has room for improvement. So, Rory could be an even bigger inspiration for him.
I think it may have something to do with the fact that he majored in history and polisci in college.
You know what, I think this guy is charming enough that he'd make a good politician in front of the camera. What I mean (ignoring all political views) is that he could charm votes from people. Seriously, don't you think so? ;)

As much as I wanted to hit Logan yesterday, I have to say that Matt did a fabulous job. I was really blown away by his acting. We got to see more of his range.

11-09-2005, 06:34 PM
Yeah, he was. I mean, how did he get his veins in his neck to bulge like that, when he was fighting with Rory?
Ashlyn
11-09-2005, 06:35 PM
I don't know, but I was impressed.
... and the way he said "Did you date?" was perfect. Subtle jealously, seriousness... it was good.
Heather
11-10-2005, 01:20 AM
Yeah, he was perfect in those scenes. Even earlier in the ep, when they were leaving the bar. He even looked drunk. I mean, acting drunk is one thing, but being able to make your eyes glaze over, and nail all the manuerisms while remembering your lines, is quite impressive.
Webeh
11-10-2005, 01:38 AM
^ He looked drunk even before that. When the camera first sweeps inside the bar, Matt's body language just screams hammered.
A lot of actors have a tendency of overplaying the drunkeness. Not so here. ;)
Heather
11-10-2005, 01:41 AM
Yeah, he completely nailed it. And yeah, the bar scene too. He was so out of it, you could tell the first instant that you saw him. He seemed like in another world, and his body language just screamed it.
Baby_Em05
11-10-2005, 01:46 PM
He did excellent throughout the whole episode. Logan played an awsome drunk. haha
I thought it was adorable how he wanted to apologize to the folk singler :lol:
Heather
11-10-2005, 01:54 PM
Yeah, the whole "I hurt her feelings...." was pretty funny.
I also liked how Logan kept trying to kiss Rory while she was helping walk to the car, and tried to put his hand on her waist when he was leaning against the car.
Webeh
11-11-2005, 01:33 AM
I think Logan's a horny drunk. He seemed like he wanted to get laid in the middle of the road.
Meanwhile, Colin and Finn are happy drunks. Boy, what a contrast in this trio. ;)
Heather
11-11-2005, 01:43 AM
I wouldnt say horny, per se....just touchy feely. :lol:
But then again, he has a girl to turn to and be like that with. Colin and Finn dont.
Webeh
11-11-2005, 01:56 AM
^ But, doesn't alcohol blur the vision. Colin and Finn could easily look like women to each other. ;) And, they did have the opportunity to try to get laid. There were those other two girls around.
I wouldnt say horny, per se....just touchy feely.
You're right, touchy feely is a better discription. Anyways, I thought his drunk character was cute.
Heather
11-11-2005, 02:01 AM
Extremely cute...
And yeah, thats true. Finn is usually trying to get Rosemary to bed when hes been drinking, but he didnt even talk to her. Weird....
Although Finns pass to Juliet was pretty hysterical. Not to mention the whole, "God has spoken to me!....rather rudely." :lol:

TV BREAKTHROUGH
'Gilmore' guy discusses his climb to fame
By Terry Morrow
SCRIPPS HOWARD NEWS SERVICE
When college senior Matt Czuchry told his parents he wanted to be an actor, he was the one to point out that it might not be a good idea.
"I was actually the one saying I should go on to law school," Czuchry recalls. "They were the ones who told me I should go ahead and act."
His parents knew best. After five years of struggling, Czuchry was cast last year in the pivotal role of Logan Huntzberger on the WB family drama "Gilmore Girls."
Logan is the blue-blooded beau of central character Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel). The role was intended to be short-term. But here he is, walking the red carpet, having photographers yell out his name and setting the hearts of the WB aflutter.
"When you play one of these parts - as a boyfriend - it can be for one episode or two, but in his case it's a second season," says "Gilmore" star Lauren Graham, who plays Lorelai Gilmore.
"He's made his mark as a good actor. He's someone very special. He made that nice impact, and that's why he is still on the show."
In the past year, Czuchry has gone from unknown to magazine-cover star.
"To come into ('Gilmore') and be a part of that was very surreal and fantastic in the same time," the 28-year-old says. "The day-to-day aspects of my life have been the same, but it's the exterior things that have changed.
"It's things like being recognized or being on the cover of TV Guide. These are kind of large things that you can never prepare for. They just kind of happen. It's a beautiful thing . . . but life is not all about those things."
Czuchry's fame comes after years of struggling as just another actor in Hollywood. His résumé is filled with brief roles on briefer shows such as "Jake 2.0," "Hack," "Young Americans" and "Freaks and Geeks."
There were stretches when parts weren't coming. But financial support from his parents kept him from having to become just another waiter in Hollywood with big dreams.
When Czuchry auditioned for Logan, he was already a fan of the show, and he says that helped him nail the part.
"I knew from my audition scene that (Logan) was going to be the opposite of Rory, and I knew (how to play) that," he says. Logan "pushes Rory to (feel) the same way. He's pushing her to live life more spontaneously."
"Gilmore Girls" is the first established hit of which Czuchry has been a part.
His father, Andy Czuchry, is a professor at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. His mother, Sandra, is a homemaker. Their other children work in the fields of academics and business.
Matt Czuchry attended the College of Charleston in South Carolina, where he studied history and political science. Acting didn't appear to be on the radar at all - at least that's what his family thought.
"It caught me a little bit by surprise," says his father. "I said if he had a passion (for acting) and wanted to do that, then we'd help any way that we can."

New "Gilmore Girls" Love Interest Loves Learning
HEY! Who dropped the -- oh, oops, I'm doing it again. Sorry about that. What can I say? Smart guys get to me. And let me tell you, this one is really smart. And athletic. And, well... MATT CZUCHRY, the new heartthrob on the WB's "Gilmore Girls" (Tuesdays at 8 p.m.), works hard at what he does, always, as long as it's what he loves. It's just one of the things that makes him so interesting. So, if there are any self-proclaimed "Rorys" out there, read on. You won't be disappointed.
How do you like being the new love interest on "Gilmore Girls"?
It's a great opportunity. The show's doing really well this year. The stuff they're giving me for my character every week is just great.
Is portraying "Logan" interesting to you?
Yes... [I enjoy] the sense of freedom [I] have with his character. He just comes in at the right time, and says whatever he wants. It's kind of that attitude you have in college -- untouchable or immortal -- whatever you want to call it. [There's the] sense of freedom to be able to play someone different than I am. I always think before I speak.
Is the "Gilmore Girls'" backdrop of college relatable to you?
I went to the College of Charleston (Charleston, WV) and graduated in 1999. Now that I'm out of school, I can look back and have a good sense of where this character is coming from, since I've had those college experiences. To me, that's a big advantage... I'm able to relate to what Logan may be thinking during certain situations since I've been there.
We hear you were a tennis star in school.
I don't know if I'd use the word "star..." go to school on a scholarship. In my senior year of high school, I won the Tennessee State Championship, so that was pretty special to me. I played varsity all four years, and was the captain of my team the last two years.
Tennis was a huge part of my life in college. It taught me so much about discipline. I double-majored in history and political science, and then played tennis on top of that. It was a great experience for life.
I'd play a match all day, finish at 10 p.m., and [though] I was exhausted, I'd have a paper due the next morning. I could win a huge match and feel great, but I still knew [I had] to get that paper done in the morning.
[b]So you were a good student with all of that going on?
I was! I won the highest award you can win when you graduate from the College of Charleston -- the Bishop Robert Smith Award. It combines academics and extracurricular activities. The day before graduation, they have a ceremony where that's the first award presented and everyone has to stand... it was a big deal.
I remember the day my political science teacher asked me to stay after class, and I thought, ‘Oh no, what's going on? Am I in trouble here?' He said to me, ‘The political science department wants to nominate you for the Bishop Robert Smith Award,' and I was completely floored. All the hard work I had done in academics and in athletics was being recognized. I just did it because I love to learn, and it was being recognized by my professors whom I looked up to.
Oh, you geek!
My family always [told me], just do what you love. I love history and political science, and it was a lot of hard work, papers, and the extra stuff double-majoring, but I love to learn. It wasn't like, I've gotta get an A in this class, I've gotta get an A on this test, it was just a matter of [my] enjoying what I was doing. I think that's key at any phase in your life -- to just do what you enjoy.
Personally and professionally, who would you say are your biggest influences in life?
My family has been a great model for me. I have both my parents, and three siblings. They're all older than I am so it's kind of like having five parents. And within my family, there are teachers -- both figuratively and literally. I had a great base from my family as far as educating me about life, academics, and professional aspects.
Are you where you want to be right now in your career?
It's an exciting time for me to be on a show that's in its fifth season, that's doing well, and [to be] working with people I enjoy. And also, "Gilmore Girls" has such a different tone with the pace of the dialogue that it's different, and I'm learning so much.
Just like with academics, I love to learn, and I have so much to learn about acting. I feel like I'm improving and learning all the time with each job
I do.

Info on a Matt Movie, called "Swimming Upstream":
The Jane Pickens Theater bustled with excitement, especially from five teenage soccer players from Bristol. With the typical exuberance of 15 and 16-year-olds, the boys could barely contain their excitement as the seats, all 650, filled, and members of the cast and crew of "Swimming Upstream" took their places. Boys may just want to have fun, but these guys were awaiting their own screen debuts as players on a soccer team in the world premiere of the coming-of-age drama, "Swimming Upstream." The movie’s proceeds were to benefit the Potter Animal League.
"Swimming Upstream" is the most sensitive drama I can recall about a teenager who wants to lose his virginity. (Think "American Pie" as a sample of how crass and crude Hollywood films on the subject can be.) Its serious yet lyrical tone stems from the fact that it’s about more than a 17-year-old’s coming of age. It’s about a family without a mother that’s headed by an emotionally absent father. It’s about the son’s attempts to keep his Dad off booze long enough to have a decent conversation. Mostly, it’s about a "sense of place," of making and maintaining contact with one’s roots.
Director Bob Emery knows about a sense of place. Although the 35-year veteran of movies and television now lives in Florida, he chose to set this movie in Rhode Island, basing it on the novel "The Greatest Thing That Almost Happened," by Don Robertson. Robertson’s book was set in Ohio, but Emery, who refers to the film as "a very personal work," came home to Bristol, where he was born and raised, for principal shooting. Other scenes were shot in Providence and Warwick.
At the screening last week, Emery pointed out that "Swimming Upstream" is not exactly a "film." The feature was shot entirely on Sony’s new high definition digital format, the same format used for the current installment of "Star Wars." Of course, there are no space ships or aliens in "Swimming Upstream." This poignant and often humorous story stays close to heart and home. It is very much grounded in reality.
Morris Bird III (Matt Czuchry) excels in school, especially in English and writing. He’s in love. He is popular with his class and teammates, and he makes a game of running up the down escalators.
Morris’s girlfriend Julie (Elizabeth Harnois) is also in love, but she fends off his sexual advances proclaiming that she’s simply not ready to take that step. She calls him "Clown" and urges him to stop playing games on escalators and concentrate on his future.
Morris Bird II (Michael Moriarty, of "Law and Order" fame) doesn’t have a clue about his son’s amorous desires or of his daughter Sandra’s (Kelly Rutherford) wish to marry her boyfriend. Sandra has taken up the cooking and housekeeping chores, but because her mother died 12 years earlier; it’s time for Sandra to have a life of her own.
While coming to terms with these relatively small conflicts, the family has to face the unexpected news of a devastating illness. How they transcend their differences and learn to cope with a tragic disease is where the story goes straight for the heart. The resolution requires handkerchiefs, but the boys from Bristol added comic relief when they erupt into mini Academy Award acceptance speeches.
Prior to the screening, Chris Smith, an employee of the Potter League for Animals, thanked Emory for presenting this première as a benefit for the shelter. Smith noted that, in addition to sheltering and finding homes for stray animals, the Potter League also serves as protectors of animal actors. Staff members have overseen the treatment of animals on a number of films shot locally, including "True Lies" and "Outside Providence."
And exactly how did Emory come to offer this labor of love as a fundraiser for the Potter League? His sister, Pearl, has worked there for many years.
"Swimming Upstream" was awarded the Sapphire Halo Award for "Best Dramatic Feature" at this year’s Angel City Film Festival in Los Angeles. It is groundbreaking for its use of the newest digital process and for its frankness and sensitivity in depicting a teenager’s coming-of-age as a journey into the heart of darkness that can dwell at the center of troubled families. It ends on a life-affirming and joyous note, and that is another huge plus. Director Bob Emory offers a study of the family that has the look of an all-American Norman Rockwell painting and the soul of Robert Frost, whose work is quoted in one very moving scene.

I saw him in Eight Legged Freaks on TV. The movie was funny, but stupid.
Matt played a horny dirt biker, who dated Scarlett Johanssen (who must have been like 15 at the time of filming). He got his crotch tasered (for trying to bang Scarlett in a pick-up truck) and he peed his pants. Then, he spends the whole movie running away from giant spiders on his dirt bike.
In the end, the town residents kill the big momma spider by blowing up an underground mine and a shopping mall. Matt survives to the very end, which I found surprising because they made his character be a j@ck@ss. The mean people always die in those sort of movies...

Matt was on TV Guide's Podcast last night. I transcribed it for anyone who missed it. (Im also keeping the spoilerish content out. You can read the full transcript in the Sneak Preview forum)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ausiello: Logan, uh, Matt, welcome to the show
[Matt laughs]
Manny: Oh, no, thats so unprofessional.
Angel: What a great way to start the show!
Matt: Thank you so much, I appreciate you guys having me.
Manny: Do you get that alot, do people call you Logan?
Matt: No, actually I dont. I dont.
Manny: This is actually the first time someone has called you Logan.
Matt: [laughing] Is right now, yeah, exactly. It happens occassionally, but not too bad, not too bad.
Manny: I think Logan is actually Dylan of the 2000 generation. Ten years ago, all the bad boy characters were named Dylan, and now its Logan.
Matt: Yeah, Ive seen it on several different shows, its interesting.
Ausiello: But Logan isnt really a bad boy. They make him seem like he's this bad boy, when really he's rich and he loves to have fun. I dont think that makes him a bad boy.
Angel: I would LOVE to hang out with Logan.
Manny: But, Michael, is your name Matt Czuchry, the actor who plays Logan?
[Matt laughs] Maybe we should ask MATT what he thinks Logan is.
Ausiello: Oh, Im not the star of this podcast?
Manny: No, no, you're not, Matt is.
[Matt laughs]
Ausiello: Oh, ok.
Manny: Matt, tell us what you think Logan is, since recently you had that great moment with Rory, where you reveal the burdens your character is under.
Matt: Right. That was kind a spike in the first part of the season. The beginning of the season we were kind of resolving issues that finished off last season, now its kind of climax of this season, pushing us into a new storyline, which you saw this week, with Rory and Lorelai coming back together. So, that was kind of a spike in their relationship in the sense that alot of things that had been unsaid, just came out of nowhere for both of them. Logan's family issues, the issue with Rory dropping out of Yale. All those things that had been unsaid since the beginning of their relationship just came out of nowhere. I agree with Michael in the sense of him not specifically being a badboy. I think the way that he looks at the world, he is this rich guy, he has lived in this bubble of college, and he knows thats coming to an end, and he's gonna take over the family business, and live up to those responsibilities. I dont necessarily think he's a badboy, he just kind of knows, that this run he's had in college is coming to an end, and he's taking advantage of that.
Ausiello: Now, I have to ask, what was it like shooting those things with you, Alexis, and Milo. Obviously Alexis and Milo are a couple in real life, and here you are, playing her boyfriend on the TV show. Was there any tension behind the scenes?
Matt: You know what was great, was that when I got that script, I was so excited because it was going to be this big climax from the beginning of the scene, and there was so much great stuff there. I thought it was so great to have Jess come back, and kind of push her, and be the hero, and in the situation with Logan, as well, alot of stuff came up. I was so excited just to work with both of them together, and then when I got to the set, it was great. Milo was very, very, very, supportive. After every take, we would talk to each other, and recommend different things, and he'd congratulate me on different things, and I would congratulate him. So, it was really nice. It was really supportive, and also on that same thing, there was stuff I could use, of course, as an actor, that they are together, and things like that. You can kind of use that. I think thats why it all kind of worked. Because you definitely can use them, but at the same time, there was no tension outside of any of the takes, or anything like that. That episode has been my favorite episode that Ive ever filmed. Last year, it was the 100th episode. And this year, working with them, and knowing how important it was to the middle of the season, it was by far my favorite episode.
Ausiello: Matt, who gave you your first magazine cover?
Matt: You did, Michael!! I will never forget it, I will never forget it! My first magazine cover, TV Guide. I mean, that was so special. You know my mom, and my grandparents were actually in TN at the same time, so they all, with my dad, got to share it at the same time, together. My mom went out and bought eight or nine copies at the local grocery store. It was just an exciting time to be a part of that, and to have it be one of those firsts that you think about. Your first magazine cover, you never forget that. So Michael, I will never, never forget that. Never.
Manny: It was actually your 2nd cover, because Michael's been putting you on the cover of his Gilmore Fanzines, that he does.
Matt: [laughs] Thats great!!
Ausiello: Actually, that was shut down. Warner Brothers had legal problems with it, so that was actually shut down.
Matt: [laughs] Ok, well, I still have the TV Guide cover, so I count that one.
Ausiello: Matt, do you have an awful lot of fans now that recognize you when you go out in public? Or do you go on the internet, and see what people are saying about you, or is that kind of scary?
Matt: Well, you know the thing with TV that makes it so important, is that it comes into people's homes. And alot of people have a connection with the show, specifically, and with my character, and how he impacts the show. So, you do have moments outside of work, where you get to meet fans. Its such a unique experience when you meet people, when you cross paths, both for me, and for the person, because they are so connected to the show, they are so connected to the character. They just want to let you know that they appreciate it, or they just want to let you know that you're doing great, or they just want to know whats going to happen. And thats exciting. As far as the internet is concerned, I dont peek at that too much, because there's also a certain responsibilty that I have as an actor, to do justice to my character, to do justice to the scenes, so I try to not listen too much to what the audience is saying. Anytime people come up to me or Im congratulated, its such a different experience, and its nice. But there is a certain measure of how you have to seperate yourself from the audience in order to do your job effectively. So, thats why I dont go peeking around too much on the internet sites.
Ausiello: This is the part of the podcast, where we pry into your personal life. Are you dating anyone right now? There are rumors flying around that you went out with Kelly Bishop went out on a date.
Matt: [laughs] No, no.
Ausiello: Just a little joke.
Matt: I didnt know about that rumor, but no.
Ausiello: I think I read that in the Inquirer.
Matt: [laughs] Oh great....great.
Ausiello: No, Im kidding. So, are you dating anyone?
Matt: No, no Im not.
Ausiello: So, you're available?
Matt: I am available. I am available, yes
Ausiello: I think I just heard a hundred message boards light up, with fingers tapping, "OH MY GOD!! He's available!"
Matt: Thats very nice, thats very nice. And no, Im definitely available.
Ausiello: Matt, be honest, its has to be an ego boost to you to know that there are so many people out there that consider you a sex symbol.
Matt: Oh, geez.
Ausiello: I know, you're an actor, you dont want to think about things like that, but its a fact, really.
Matt: Oh, geez...Im a little bit thrown by that, but...
Manny: Well, Im asking vicariously because none of us will ever know what thats like.
Ausiello: Oh, speak for yourself.
Manny: Im speaking for all of us.
Matt: [laughs] Thats great.
Manny: Let us live through you, Matt. Come on.
Matt: You know, the thing is, being 28 years old, and coming to a situation where there is definitely a little more attention, is an interesting thing to have to deal with. This show is something that has changed my life in the sense that there are a lot of firsts, first cover, first time Im a series regular, alot of firsts that have just come with this job. So, for me, I think its changed my life, and that has been a little piece of it, so anytime you're dealing with something new, its a bit interesting in how it effects your life, how it impacts your life, and how its different. So, you have those moments were there are fans who are female, who come up to you and they see you as someone they have a connection with and its a bit surreal to meet that person, oustide of that. So, I kind of always take that as an opportunity to have a unique moment with the person. As far as the whole sex symbol thing, its not something I really think about, or something Im forced to think about too much as far as a regular basis is concerned. Unless you get thrown a question like that on a podcast, and then I have to think about it.
Angel: Now, Matt, I read that you had originally planned on going to to law school. Any part of you feel like you're missing out on that?
Manny: What do you think, Angel?!?
Angel: Well...he seems like a pretty down to earth, young man.
Matt: [laughs] Yeah. Thankfully, I moved to LA after I finished with college. So, Ive been in LA for 6 years now, and its been an incredible journey, as far as the people Ive gotten to meet, the things Ive had to do, and the experiences Ive had. Its been an incredible journey, so its definitely one of those decisions, where I feel like it was the right one, and I dont regret making that decision, thankfully, and there's not a piece of me at all, that wishes I had gone to law school. Or sometimes people ask me, "do you have a Plan B, in case this thing doesnt work out." And I dont. It hasnt really come into my mind yet, so I really dont have a Plan B. Because its something that I love, and everything is going well.
Ausiello: Matt, its been a pleasure talking to you. I dont think Plan B is going to be necessary for you, frankly.
Matt: Oh, thank you.
Ausiello: And lets remind our listeners to tune in to the Gilmore Girls, on every Tuesday night, of course, on the WB. And thank you, Matt Czurchy for your time.
Matt: Thanks guys, you're so supportive of the show, and its very much appreciated. Michael, Ill never forget that.
Ausiello: There you go. Best of luck to you, Matt. Continued success.
Matt: Thank you.
Ausiello: Take care, Matt.
Matt: Bye.
and now i'm quite sad that he said to his sister that they broke up :( it shouldn't end so quickly...
can't wait for january too see what happens :)
i actually liked eight legged freaks. i never realized that it was him and scarlett johansson in it until today. i just finished up reading a book called the rum diary yesterday and thought that the main character in a movie version would be matt and the lady in it would be scarlett johansson (just saw her in island) and it's pretty ironic.
why is there almost no gossip about matt?
no, i'm not talking about the trash tabloid stuff. i'm glad that i haven't found THAT anywhere. (alright, i'm nosy about the break-up with kate but no one is talking.)
i mean the innocent, non-intrusive gossip....
for example, there are hundreds of stories on the web about the various LOTR boys going to comic con or surfing.
what about an NBAE game description? or about an encounter with matt at a concert? or any interesting college gossip. (y'all know that whatever happened at college is *old* news after 5 years and really isn't 'personal' anymore. LOL).
where's the harmless gossip that isn't personal or invades his privacy?
matt is like a hermit crab...comes out of his shell, looks around, and then disappears! :poke:
or maybe i'm just not looking in the right places?!?
really, would it hurt anyone to know if he is a vegetarian, or if he has a dog, or if he skateboards?? no, it wouldn't. simple, harmless gossip that doesn't really mean much but it would amuse me to know.
LOL
^ I think the reason why there isn't a lot of media attention on Matt because he's:
a. A private person
b. Not one of the main stars of Gilmore Girls
c. Doesn't do stupid shenanigan-type things in real life to get attention
d. Is so busy working that when he does have free time, he doesn't want to spend it out in the noisy public. Rather sleep at home. (Honestly, from the interviews I did read, he doesn't seem to be the partying type.)
As an aside, we do know some things about Matt. He's nearing thirty. He used to play tennis quite seriously, until he realized quite realistically (this I think was a mature move) he has no chance of making it pro. He studies history (I think) and political science in college. A prof turned him onto acting.
That was very good interview. Usually, the writers keep asking him the same thing and as a result he has the same response to offer. But, the questions here were a bit different, so we got a bit more insight from him.
You can tell Matt's smart, just by his use of the word "skewed." ;)
Don't you think it's cute that he still tries to understand all of the references? I think I read somewhere else that the other actors gave up years ago. There were just too many for them to keep up with.
Matt Interview (http://television.aol.com/tv-celebrity-interviews/matt-czuchry)
May 8 -- A guy on a show called 'Gilmore Girls' might seem like he'd be second banana, but the series has launched the careers of several young actors. Chad Michael Murray (Tristan) went on to headline in 'One Tree Hill,' Jared Padalecki (Dean) stars this season's new 'Supernatural,' while Milo Ventimiglia (Jess) anchored the WB's 'Bedford Diaries.'
So, the future looks bright for Matt Czuchry, who plays Rory Gilmore's boyfriend Logan Huntzberger. AOL Television editor Kelly Woo chatted with him about his prospects, the fate of 'Gilmore Girls' and his competitive side.
What was your reaction to the news that the creator of the show, Amy Sherman-Palladino, and her husband, executive producer Dan Palladino, won't be back next season?
Amy and Dan were and are mentors to me. They were my teachers, and I was the student. They've given me an education all the way from the beginning. On a personal level, it's difficult to know they won't be there.
How does the cast feel about moving to The CW Television Network?
There is a general excitement among everybody in the cast. Being part of the first year of a new network is a pretty rare opportunity. So, everybody's excited about that, and hoping that 'Gilmore Girls' will not only continue with that core group of fans that have been following the show for six years, but that the fan base will expand with the CW extending new markets and attracting new people from UPN.
It seems like 'Gilmore Girls' is a lock to get onto the CW's schedule.
We'll know officially in a couple weeks. Nothing is ever official until your first day of filming or until you get that piece of paper that says you have a job. The upfronts are coming up, and that's when the networks announce their new schedules and the new shows. Nothing is a lock until it's official and on paper and we all have jobs.
You signed on for next season, right?
I did. If the show does come back, my character will be coming back.
So that must be a good sign for Logan and Rory's relationship.
As far as the season finale is concerned, there is turmoil on both sides, on Rory's side and Lorelai's side. We've seen Rory and Logan grow up together through this relationship. After Logan gets in this traumatic accident at the end of his college career, it shakes him up quite a bit. So in the last episode, we'll see him in a way we've never seen him before: very vulnerable, needing help from Rory and needing a change in his life. At the end of this season, there's going to be a lot of questions regarding Logan and Rory and how Logan graduating college and taking on more responsibility with his family's business affects their relationship. You'll see that they're committed to each other, but there are plenty of obstacles in the way.
Rory always seems to be attracted to bad boys. Why do you think that is?
It's a side of her that she can express through a relationship. Often times we find in life that we're intrigued by those people who have qualities that aren't like our own.
But Logan isn't quite the bad boy anymore. He's reformed quite a bit.
That's been one of the main themes for Logan this year, knowing that he needs to grow up and resisting it. But then, at the end of the day, he'll be a man and step up to the responsibilities. You'll see that personified really heavily in the season finale.
Many of the guys who used to be on 'Gilmore Girls' have gone to star in their own shows. Is that something you see in your future?
Right now, hopefully, we'll get another season of the show. I definitely hope that happens. With the new network, it's one step at a time. So my main focus is hopefully coming back to the show. Decisions about things in the future will come at a later stage. Definitely, Milo and Jared and Chad Michael Murray -- all those guys have careers I've watched as they progressed, especially coming from 'Gilmore Girls.' Certainly, I do feel a certain connection there because I'm on the show. They have careers I've watched and would like to emulate.
Now, I read that you were a tennis star. Is that true?
Yes. I played tennis throughout my life. In high school, I won the Tennessee state championship and went on to play in college at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Tennis taught me so many life lessons. I'm six and a half years removed from playing competitive tennis, but there are still those life lessons I take with me every day.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
I play quite a bit of basketball. I play in a basketball league called the NBA Entertainment League. I just got back from a trip to Norway with a group called the Hollywood Knights. It's a charity basketball group, and we went over to Bergen, Norway to play for two charities in Norway -- one was for the monuments in Norway and the other was for the Cancer Society in Bergen. It was a really special trip and a climactic moment in my life. One of the nice things that comes from being on the show is I get asked often times to be part of a charity.
What are your favorite shows?
I'm really missing 'Six Feet Under.' I like 'Lost,' 'South Park' and 'The Office.' I'm really looking forward to the next season of 'Rescue Me.'
AOL Television is showing an exclusive digital short from 'Rescue Me.'
I thought the last season of that show was phenomenal. This is going to be a big year for it.
What summer movies are you looking forward to watching?
I'm a comic book fan so 'X-Men,' 'Superman,' all those kind of movies. And next year, 'Spider-Man,' and I know 'Iron Man' is in development. I keep track of all the superhero movies, so immediately I'm looking forward to 'X-Men' and 'Superman Returns.'
Is that the only reason you want to see 'Superman Returns'? [Czuchry used to date actress Kate Bosworth.]
[Laughs.] Interesting question. I'm interested in seeing 'Superman' for a variety of reasons.
I think Logan is a great character and played very well by Matt! I used to really like Logan and Rory together, but now I'm kind of bothered by this relationship. I understand you have to mature a character, but I just don't like who Rory is with him. She's nothing like the Rory we all came to love. Everyone grows up, I understand that, but I think who Rory is with Logan is extreme.:froze:
I like both Rory's. The Rory with Logan is nice because she is exposed to the world and isn't sheltered.
I'm so excited Logan will be in the final three episodes! I will forever love the GG crew if Rory/Logan end up together (hopefully get engaged!) in the end.
There's this short film called "Advantage Hart" (go to ifilm.com and watch all 30 minutes) that Matt has a part in. It's about tennis, so I first thought "oh that makes sense, he plays tennis" but no, because he plays really bad in it. I thought it was a funny short (esp during the tense match at the end...you'll know what I mean) Also, Kate Bosworth's in it, which got me thinking...just how many things are they in together?
A bit off topic, but if another good short is "The Receipt". It's a parody of Run Lola Run. I'll be back shortly with the link to that. It was awesome and had Kristen Bell in it.
Yes, this is definitely better than Advantage Hart. Matt was the star of this one, which I love. And, it gets extra brownie points for being about a fanboy (because I'm a fangirl, but not quite to the same extent as Scotty) and featuring a cameo from Zach Braff. *giggles. :)
I just watched hooked and I laughed out loud. Oh my.
"Hook is lame" (cut to shot of him in a peter pan outfit then with a 'hook forever' tatoo)
Oh yes scotty
^ This might sound sad, but I think Scotty is the type of guy that I would have a crush on. ;)
If anyone is interested, here's the link to "The Receipt." Matt Czuchry isn't in it, but it definitely is funny to watch.
Oh, I would definitely have a crush on him. He was too adorable! I always smile at the scene where he's running to catch Wendy at the end. Soooo cute!
If you guys keep watching Hooked after the credits start to roll, there are outtakes, some of which are pretty funny.
Did anyone else realize that the guy that played Ed was Finn on Young Americans? Talk about two completely different characters. But then again, Scotty was nothing like Logan.
^ That might be why they're in the same short film. Maybe they kept in touch?
This will sound bad, but I'm glad Young American's got cancelled. Who knows if Matt would still be on GG if that show didn't die. I like him, but not enough to watch that show.
I'm just double-posting until someone else responds to bump up the thread. (Then, I'll delete this or Heather can combine my two posts. Which ever comes first.)
Just wanted to give you all the heads up that there are VM pics (three to be precise) of Matt's guest appearance up in the Veronica Mars Sneak Preview thread. He looks very un-Logan-like. But, I guess that makes sense. He's not Logan there. Jason Dohring is. :)
Edit: It just occurred to me that I can't delete posts. Doh!
Logan to me seems like he's really it for Rory, well he didn't walk away from his family, inheritance, or desitny he offered to. Logan wouldn't have done it for just everyone. And despite, Rory plea in the end of S5 not to confront his father other the nasty comments about her ablities as a report, I think there a chance Logan might still have it out with his father over that... despite distance and cirstumstances Rory seems to come first to Logan and there's no question at all about that in my mind.
From Parting I must admit to me this was one of the cuter Rory and Logan's scenes I thought, some what bitter sweet since he was leaving for London the next morning, however this scene was also where he told Rory if she asked him, he wouldn't go.
^ I personally prefer the scene that came after this one. The actual goodbye. I don't know why, but this one just broke my heart.
We find out that Logan made sure that Rory would be okay condo-wise for the entire year, which does suggest that he fully intends to come back to her after his year in London. Paying for someone else's rent is a very big and generous investment. I thought that said alot about their relationship.
Also, both Logan and Rory showed a great deal of maturity (and bravery), which I haven't seen from them before. I really appreciated the lack of a trashy romance cliffhanger, where either Rory jumps on the plane with him or Logan ditches London. This scene was so grown-up, it made me feel very confident about their relationship this season.
Honestly, I loved every Rory/Logan scene in that ep. They were so happy, so in love, you could just feel the closeness between the two of them, and how much they love each other, even with London hanging over their heads.
Heather, I felt the same way. This was a maturity not seen before in their romance. It gives me more confidence that Logan and Rory should be together. Mostly they are good for each other.
Yeah, thats why I am confident that they will overcome London. As someone who has done the long distance thing...its not easy. But it is doeable, if you love each other enough. And it was clear in Partings, that Rory and Logan do love each other enough to make it work.
I miss his season five hair...this is sort of random, but I just decided that I liked his hair in season five the best. BNACAP especially.
I love how Rory has changed Logan, well not really changed - moulded. But theres some speculation that they won't end up together - that cant happen can it...?
Yeah, I know what you mean. We finally get back from the hiatus, and the first two eps had no Matt in them. It was disappointing.
I agree. I hardly watch the episodes when Matt isn't in it. It would be easier if the CW just could give us a list with his episode schedule so I know which episodes to watch.
The only good thing about no Matt in 7.11 and 7.12 is he will now be in 8 of the 10 upcoming episodes.
But then the CW would have less viewers for episodes without Logan :lol:
Very true. I tape all the eps. But if Logan's not in it, I tape over those eps with ones he is in. :lol:
Excellent, we are guaranteed to have Logan for the rest of the season. But I'm worried about if there will be a next season from the way he talks. Also, what is the twist he is talking about?
Check it out and let me know your thoughts:
