View Full Version : Walk the Line; Reese, Ryan and the Kids
<img src="http://www.fanbolt.com/blog/Nov2005/walktheline.jpg" width="85" height="85" vspace="5" hspace="5" align="left" border="0" alt="Reese, Joaquin">I hope everyone in the states had a great Thanksgiving! Things have been a bit slow here over the holidays. Just wanted to post these pics I came accross of Reese, Ryan and their kids hanging out up in Canada over the holidays. I know Emma will love these since they are her favorite couple ever. click for pics! (http://www.fanbolt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27112)
We went and say Walk the Line on Thanksgiving night. We were both pretty blown away. Joaquin was incredible, Reese was incredible, and the flim was definitely the best thing to come out in 2005. Emma thinks Joaquin is a shoe-in for best actor at the oscars. I have a feeling that there are going to be a whole slew of Oscar nominations for movie. Point is: if you haven't seen it, do so. At first I thought it was kind of odd to have Joaquin Phoenix portray Johnny Cash, but I don't think there is anyone out there who could have done half as good of a job as Joaquin. Reese as June Carter Cash was a brilliant choice as well. She was the perfect co-star to Joaquin. You'll be absolutely floored when you see this movie.

I will follow that advice...
and Ryan and Reese are a beautiful couple :)

Yes Joaquin Phoenix is a shoe in for a nomination... so is Eric Bana for "Munich" and Phillip Seymour Hoffman for "Capote."
On the women's side, count in Reese Witherspoon for a nomination, as well as Felicity Huffman for "Transamerica" (who won the Tribeca Film Festival award for Best Actress this past year)
However, although it'll get both leading actor/actress nods, I highly doubt it will get a nod for Best Picture... unless it gets a sentimental push; sort of the same way they squeezed in "Ray" last year, which although had a virtuoso performance by Jamie Foxx, as a whole movie, it wasn't as strong as for example, "Hotel Rwanda."
But besides the oscar speculations... what a strangely/suprisingly normal looking hollywood family :)...

Wow.. that's one beautiful family.
How adorable do they look playing in the snow?
You know i'm all about Walk the Line sweeping the Oscars. ;)

I think "Memoirs of a Geisha" will get the most wins, or at the very least, the most nominations (wins most likely for costume, cinematography, makeup, supporting actress for Gong Li. Maybes include Best Picture)
I think Phoenix will win Best Actor, although never underestimate the Oscars' bias towards Spielberg (Eric Bana; "Munich")
"Best Support Actor/Actress" nominations will be have a lot of competition from movies like "Syriana" and "Crash"
Best Picture will most likely go to "Brokeback Mountain," "Munich," or "Memoirs of a Geisha"
I love talking about this type of stuff... :dancing:

I actually do to.
You ever check out oscarwatch.com, Andrew? That's a fun site. :)
I really did love Walk the Line, but I wouldn't be surprised if Munich or Memoirs pulled out a win over it. I'd actually like Brokeback Mountain to win over those two, but I have a feeling it won't, though it will probably be nominated.
Who are your picks for nominations, Andrew?
Andrew
11-27-2005, 01:49 PM
Oh yeah... for like the last month, i've been reading a lot from the site
As for my predictions... I written this a while ago (Yeah I know i'm a freak  ), so it's not really "updated"... however, it's a good representation:
[Best Picture]
• "Brokeback Mountain"
• "Capote"
• "Good Night, and Good Luck"
• "Memoirs of a Geisha"
• "Munich"
Who would I like to see nominated: "Crash," "The Constant Gardener"
Who will probably win: Memoirs, Mountains, Munich
Who do I want to win: Memoirs of a Geisha
[Best Director]
• George Clooney, "Good Night, and Good Luck"
• Paul Haggis, "Crash"
• Ang Lee, "Brokeback Mountain"
• Rob Marshall, "Memoirs of a Geisha"
• Steven Spielberg, "Munich"
Who will probably win: A tossup between Spielberg and Lee
Who do I want to win: It'd be interesting if Clooney won. However, I'd like to see either Marshall or Haggis
[Best Actress]
• Felicity Huffman, "Transamerica"
• Keira Knightly, "Pride and Prejudice"
• Charlize Theron, "North Country"
• Reese Witherspoon, "Walk The Line"
• Ziyi Zhang, "Memoirs of a Geisha"
Who would I like to see nominated: Claire Danes, "Shopgirl"
Who will probably win: It's between Felicity and Reese
Who do I want to win: a tossup between Felicity and Zhang
[Best Actor]
• Eric Bana, "Munich"
• Ralph Fiennes, "The Constant Gardener"
• Phillip Seymour Huffman, "Capote"
• Heath Ledger, "Brokeback Mountain"
• Joaquin Phoenix, "Walk The Line"
Who would I like to see nominated: Terrance Howard, "Hustle & Flow"
Who should not be nominated: Bill Murray, "Broken Flowers"
Who will probably win: Joaquin or Eric
Who do I want to win: Joaquin, Phillip, or Eric
[Best Supporting Actress]
• Sandra Bullock, "Crash"
• Li Gong, "Memoirs of a Geisha"
• Catherine Keener, "Capote"
• Scarlett Johansson, "Match Point"
• Rachel Wiesz, "The Constant Gardener"
Who would I like to see nominated: Michelle Yeoh, "Memoirs of a Geisha"; Thandie Newton, "Crash"; Frances McDormand, "North Country"
Who will probably win: Gong Li
Who do I want to win: Gong Li or Catherine Keener
[Best Supporting Actor]
• Don Cheadle, "Crash"
• George Clooney, "Syriana"
• Jake Gyllenhal, "Brokeback Mountain"
• Terrance Dashon Howard, "Crash"
• Jeffery Wright, "Syriana"
Who will probably win: This category is kind of bleak on me this year, but i'll go with Jake
Who do I want to win: Jeffery Wright (just for the sole reason that his time is overdue) or Don Cheadle (same reason)
Some other random points:
• I hope "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride" or "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" wins best animated feature, more emphasis on the latter
• I swear to god if "Broken Flowers" gets an acting nod for Murray, i'm gonna burst an aneurysm in my brain; That movie, along with the performance was THE MOST pretentious thing of 2005
• If "The Producers" gets recoginized for anything, I will fling myself into traffic: I live in NY and i'm SOOOOOOOOOOO sick and tired of "The Producers" hype, along with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick
• This might disappoint some Peter Jackson fans, but I doubt "King Kong" will do anything in terms of getting the "top nods." I explained in another thread my already indifferent feeling towards the film:
It's hyped for all the wrong reasons. Face it: nobody is gonna go see it because of its "heart wrenching, dramatic plotline." ( :rolleyes2 ); they're seeing it because Peter Jackson directed it.
I also think it's overbloated with graphics and FX (there's a reason for the $207 Million budget)
Then, take into consideration that the "King Kong" story was never really a strong one, and you're pretty much looking at a run-of-the-mill remake, with its only purpose being to bring about the standards of modern day aesthetics.
But likesaid, there's Peter Jackson's name stamped on it, so i'm sure people will eat it up as if it were LOTR.

Ashlyn, Andrew...you have a thing for lists, right?
Andrew

I don't know about Ashlyn, but I sure am... it's weird... and almost kind of sad. I'm one of those people who, if you ask me a question that sounds something similar to "What's your [#] [subject]?" i'll answer it all in one exhale of a breath. I used to bother my friends, begging them to ask me those type of questions. Since then, i've calmed down a little bit...
And i'm always creating/updating lists... like
Top 10 Favorite...
• albums
• movies
• movie villians
• songs of all time
• songs at the moment
• novels
• shows
• things to do to waste time
• episodes of [show]
• soundtracks
etc. etc... and a whole lot of other stuff...
ETA: Oh yeah... when it's Grammy/Oscar/Emmy season, I go crazy with speculations, critique, and response to nominees/winners
I love making Top-... lists. Or reading them...well, not that much, though ;)
