He drew younger viewers, but his barbs skewering stars like Jude Law, Tobey Maguire and others alienated some members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In one bit, Rock suggested filmmakers should wait for better talent instead of rushing bad movies into theaters. "You want Tom Cruise and all you can get is Jude Law. Wait," Rock joked. "You want Russell Crowe and all you can get is Colin Farrell? Wait. `Alexander' is not `Gladiator.'" You want Denzel (Washington) and all you can get is me? Wait," he joked.

I guess he rubbed those academy people the wrong way. Maybe they shouldn't take themselves so seriously because, let's face it, for the most part everyone knows who will win what- there's no surprise there, and even before the films are released, it seems they've already picked their winners.

I don't know what they expected to get by asking Chris Rock to host in the first place. "Hey, let's get that crazy, skinny, loud black guy! I hear the kids LOVE him!" Then they get Chris Rock and God forbid he mock or poke a little fun at the actors and big-whigs of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

I liked what he did moderating this. He made it funkier, but of course they would hate that...

I agree. They should've let him do it again. I mean, he made it entertaining...we all know who's going to win mostly anyway!

Gee... i wonder why the Academy always gets stamped as stiff, anal, boring pretentious old guys...

Oooooh well... you can still hear Chris Rock poke fun of stuff on his show

I'm going to miss him, because he was good last year, but I'm still kind of glad the Academy is pretentious and uptight, because it will keep a high-standard for their nominations, vs. the Grammy noms this year.

I'm all for being strict with the nominations... but does being a little lenient towards the choice of the host somehow hinder the quality? If anything, Chris Rock brought some life into a usually linear ceremony...

Oh my lord. The man was joking. I loved him and he's the only reason I watched. Some people just can't take a joke.

The oscar dudes are pretensious gits... Chris Rock was hilarious last year.

But I bet those old farts don't want to know what we think anyway, because we are just the youth.

Chris Rock was the only reason to watch the Oscars. This year will just be some other washed-up celeb hosting.... whatta snoozefest.
