Munich joined oil industry thriller Syriana in the American Film Institute's 10 best films of 2005. Other films honoured included Brokeback Mountain, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, King Kong, Crash, and A History of Violence. The Squid and The Whale, Good Night And Good Luck and Capote rounded off the institute's list. [source (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4520970.stm)]

At least they recognized the greatness that was A History of Violence. That film was absolutely brilliant. I've only heard great things about Syriana, and I've really been anticipating Munich- it looks nothing short of epic.

They put Lost on there but not The West Wing... whatta joke :rolleyes2

Rescue Me is, by far, the best show on that list. The only shows that come close to rivaling it are Veronica Mars and Deadwood.

As for the movies... I loved the fact that they included "The 40 Year Old Virgin." Face it: comedies aren't really taken seriously in terms of Academy awards or being stamped as "best films of [year]." But Steve Carrell did it with this movie... I can't remember the last time I laughed so much during a movie.

I also loved that they included indie favorites like "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "Capote"

Also, as the year is coming to a close, "Crash" is probably my favorite film of 2005, so far.

I'm still apprehensive about "King Kong" and its hype machine.

As for the television... finally! VM is getting recognition from SOMEWHERE! I like that "Grey's Anatomy" is on it, and not "Desperate Housewives."

About "The West Wing"... it's not what it used to be... but that live debate was great!

I think that comedies should be excepted, but I don't accept that 'the 40 year old virgin' was the funniest film of the year... surely not?!

Surely so!

I mean thinking back... were there really any other FUNNY funny comedies this year?

Nope :shrugs:

I'm actually going to buy the DVD for "40 Year Old Virgin" later today... which is about only 5 or 6 hours away

I'm with Ash, I loved Walk the Line and am a little disappointed that it's not on the list, but otherwise I think both lists are pretty good!

I can't believe Lost is on the list for Top 10 Best TV Shows but I'm glad Veronica Mars is on it.
