View Full Version : Lindsay Lohan Admits to Struggling with Bulimia, Drugs
<img src="http://www.fanbolt.com/blog/Jan2006/lohan1.jpg" width="85" height="85" vspace="5" hspace="5" align="right" border="0" alt="Lindsay Lohan">Lindsay Lohan, who was hospitalized in Miami this week suffering from asthma, said dabbling in drugs and battling bulimia pushed her close to emotional and physical collapse.
"I knew I had a problem and I couldn't admit it," Lohan, the star of movies such as "Mean Girls" and "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen," told Vanity Fair magazine.
"I was making myself sick. I was sick and I had people sit me down and say 'You're going to die if you don't take care of yourself,"' she said in the magazine's latest issue, which hit newsstands on Wednesday.
Lohan said she used drugs "a little" but quickly tried to retract the admission and denied that she had taken cocaine. "I don't want people to think that I've done ... you know what I mean? It's kind of a sore subject," she said.
Lohan's publicist called Vanity Fair the day after the interview to try to get the confession omitted from the article, the New York Post reported.
In an apparent U-turn from interviews last year, the actress admitted fighting the eating disorder bulimia, which made her lose weight at an alarming rate.
It was when she saw footage of herself on a "Saturday Night Live" television appearance looking skeletal that Lohan became aware of how ill she really was.
"I saw that 'SNL' after I did it. My arms were disgusting. I had no arms," she said. [source (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060104/en_nm/lohan_dc;_ylt=ApbeZlmP3qqsdm0ChNTB_RBxFb8C;_ylu=X3 oDMTA5aHJvMDdwBHNlYwN5bmNhdA--)]

I think it's funny that they deny it, and then a year later, admit, as if it weren't obvious.
Nicole Richie is next...

 funny.
Well, nobody is fast to admit an eating disorder and drug abuse...well, maybe Kate Moss...
Andrew

 I don't think Kate Moss would've admitted anything if there hadn't been the pictorial proof
And LH... she said it best herself: she saw herself on SNL and her arms looked disgusting.
I mean being as they looked like twigs, or the straps to a purse... Don't give me some "I have a fast metabolism" bullcrap :nono:
EAT something!!
 True...true
Sometimes the legs of other people scare me...

VERY true.
I found is so funny that her weight loss was just good old fashion "personal trainer, diet".
Now it is drugs and an eating disorder....:shrugs:
she's like half naked on the cover...uhhh.......way to show off your eating disorder...

They probably air-brushed it... but this time they added more pixels, rather than the usual subtracting

I feel kind of bad for Lindsay but then again it's her fault for letting this happen. :shrugs: Atleast she finally admitted it but she should have done that sooner instead of lying about it and why is she posing nude or whatever? That just makes me think less of her, not more.

I was not surprised to hear the news at all. It was no shock that she had a eating disorder, and from what you hear, it seems as if a lot of movie/tv stars have done drugs before. I was reading in the newspaper that it was Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels of SNL that told her she needed to get help. Go, Tina Fey! :D Anyway, I wonder how long she has "struggled" with bulimia. It's not as if the recovery process is 'snap and you're cured.'

Yeah... Tina Fey... I love when she wears those glasses

Tina Fey looks cute with those glasses. I'm glad she talked to Lindsay about her problem.

Poor Lindsay. She is totally under too much stress and the pressures of being a celeb.
She needs to take a break and relax, get herself back on trak and back to normality.
It is good that she realised how thin she was though!

okay im really guna explode here so please dont hate me but:
some, not all but are really rude about the subject of a potentionally death-threatning disease making it as if its some kind of joke, well, its not I know actually 2 people who have/had Bulimia and its not a light subject.. its a serious problem and all this "haha" crap has got to go..
I feel bad for Lindsay and the Lohan family and with them the best....
Merv, stay calm, you are right. It's absolutely not fun, I know it.
I mean, Lindsay Lohan is one of the people I could usually not care less about, but I wish her the strength and all the best to gain weight.
Sure, maybe a smarter person would have admitted this earlier or would never had made this mistake, but now she is seriously ill and she needs help, I hope she gets it.

It's bad that she's sick and everything... but what was the reason behind it? So she can fit into her triple negative size zero dress?
And then on top of that, there are a lot of girls out there who view her as some immaculate rolemodel (although, I don't know why... but that's a different conversation) and what do they think when they see Lindsay in skin and bones?
"I have to be that skinny"
"I have to do whatever it takes to not be fat"
...or some other euphemistic thought.
Not that she asked to be anybody's rolemodel, but when you step into the spotlight, you inevitably take the responsibility. I mean, she (along with other contemporaries) are basically promoting this notion of "you have to be super-skinny in order to be deemed exceptional" and also advocating this thought of --if you have to do it-- becoming bulimic/anorexic to do so.
So sorry if I have a little reservation with the sympathy...
And then on top of that, there are a lot of girls out there who view her as some immaculate rolemodel (although, I don't know why... but that's a different conversation) and what do they think when they see Lindsay in skin and bones? That's seriously what buggers me the most about this...not only her, though.
I mean, there are probably a hundred stars who look like her, with bulimia or not. And, god, when I walk into an H&M store, I see how they fit their sizes with this 'new culture' of weighing twenty pounds.
"I have to be that skinny"
"I have to do whatever it takes to not be fat"I mean, sure, that is hammered into any girl's head if it goes out on the street, switches on the TV or looks into a magazine.
I only think that Lindsay Lohan is not the one who started this problem. I don't know much about her (as I said, I actually couldn't care less about her), but I think much rather she just was dragged into this, too.
I mean, as a role model (which she apparently is in the USA, she is not a big deal here :shrugs:) there would probably have been a hundred ways to deal with it better...
And there probably is no reason behing getting bulimic...hm, except
this notion of "you have to be super-skinny in order to be deemed exceptional"
Now, as I said, I don't know much about Lindsay Lohan and her status and fans and everything, though I am probably not the best person to discuss her with...But personally, not caring that she actually made a movie about a car named Herbie, I hope she gets better.

Again... yes... I hope she gets better. And yeah, it didn't start with her, and it isn't all her fault (a huge chunk to also blame is Hollywood and fashion magazines, which also give off this perception that you have to fit into a one-dimensional template) But continuing with this lifestyle doesn't help either.

...
It's funny how celebrities and their publicists constantly deny stories and then wham-bam-slam, 3 months, a year later they confess.
Lindsay and her bulimia, Ange and Brad's love-fest, Nick and Jess's separation etc. It's oddly strange how the stories can be so accurate.

That's so true.
In a newspaper over here, called "The Sun" they're always talking about how Britney has put on some weight which would make her near normal weight of a normal human being, and they review it in a negative light. It's telling those who can be influenced by magazines and newspaper articles, that being super boney/anorexic is better.

i LOVE Lindsay! and i feel real bad for her, i am on the big side, i think im a size 4, and i feel so pressured about losing weight, and im not even a celebrity, imagine what it must be like for her back then.. you know?

I don't particularly love Lindsay but its none of our buisness what the celebrities do in their lives. I hate that people now think its our right to know what they do and what's happening with them. And we judge them without even knowing them. She's a person like everyone else, who gets stressed out, and scared, and pressured, and makes mistakes, we don't know why she turned to bulimia, and it doesn't really matter why.

I don't see the unfairness in pointing out her denial one year --despite blatant clues-- and admitting the next.

I heard she is denying having made the comments too. It seems whoever wrote the story is sticking by what she has written and has tapes to back up what she says hmmmm :ponder:
tommygirl887
01-13-2006, 10:46 PM
Yeah, she's claiming that Vanity Fair misquoted her. And her mom said that peole are missing the whole point of the article.. apparently it was supposed to give hope to other girls going through similar issues that you can work through it like Lindsay has(or still is?)

Yeah... IMDB was saying that Lindsay is saying the writer twisted her words, while the writer says that she didn't and has it all on tape to prove it.
I don't see why she would deny it if she'd already said it though. :shrugs: Makes very little sense.
