I spoke Thursday with “Everwood” creator Greg Berlanti, who’s developing pilots for fall 2007 at the moment. He’s working right now on an hourlong show that he describes as “‘Field of Dreams in a law firm.” It’s set in San Francisco and has an element of spirituality to it. The other show is a half-hour, single-camera comedy about a 14-year old boy, with flavors of “Malcolm in the Middle” and “The Wonder Years” to it. It’s called “Welcome to My Life.”

Berlanti, by the way, is a recent but ferocious “Battlestar Galactica” fan. He called it the best-written show on television, and said that the show’s shutout in the most recent round of Emmy nominations left him stunned. “It’s the best example of why the Emmys are [expletive].” He used a profanity, but let’s all pretend he meant the word “ridiculous,” which is really the best word for much of the 2006 Emmy nomination results.
One more thing regarding Greg Berlanti: He has “no hostility toward the CW at all for not picking up” “Everwood” for another season. And he emphasized that “our show was not canceled because another show was picked up.” He knows that many fans are mad that “Seventh Heaven” was picked up for the CW’s fall schedule and “Everwood” was not, but he notes that his drama could have easily taken the slot now occupied in the CW’s fall schedule by an “America’s Next Top Model” repeats. “Everwood” was just canceled (sniff) and that’s that, and that didn’t have anything to do with “Seventh Heaven.” He adds that he would have come back to oversee the first 13 episodes of a new “Everwood” season, but he was, in another way, ready to move on. “That may have been in part because I saw the writing on the wall.”
Finally, Berlanti says that if fans of “Everwood” want Seasons 2 through 4 to come out on DVD, they should continue writing to Warner Home Entertainment and buying the first-season DVDs.

August 5th, 2006- Breaking News

In recent news it has been reveal, one of the key actors, Treat Willams has signed to star in the pilot of a new TNT Television project, Heartland, that could potentially be picked up as a fall series. It's kind of sad news for Everwood fans, but at the sametime, if Everwood is meant to return it will, if not, I realize on a certain level that all good things in life must come to an end. Everwood is one of those shows that really transcends time and place because it explores real life family circumstances. We had four amazing years, and what I would like to call an astounding 3 hour ending because the last three episodes really captured the essence of why this show is one of a kind, and has the ability to affects people on such a personal level.

Of course when we found out the show was canceled, our fanbase was up in arms and got ready for some serious battle. Everwood fans came together and accomplished the impossible, creating the ultimate fan gesture, that became in once in a lifetime event. In the history of television, no other fanbase has been able to both concieve and acomplish such a feat. The Everwood Ferris Wheel Event allowed us, to honor a show, it cast, crew, and creative team that at ultimately at the end of the day, chose to make this series about real life experiences, choosing to affect a single viewer on a deep personal level with its exploration of life's emotional rollercoaster. As opposed to appealing the mass audiences, with a generic mold of dramatic situations, and slap stick comedy.

In the end, while tv network hold the power to cancel a great tv series, the Everwood fanbase took this matter into their own hands and through their persistent/passionate efforts of letter writing, petition signing, pinecone and dvd purchasing, buying a full page ad in Variety, and making a Ferris Wheel Event possible. Gave a grand finale to a four-year period of life and tv viewership, like no other: chosing to say goodbye to our beloved show, Everwood, on our own terms.

As a devoted fanbase, we can still continute to take our at fight to Warner Home Video, and get Everwood’s season two-four on dvd!!!! To Bring in even more fans!!!!!

The cable channel ABC Family has also purchased the rights to the Everwood four year run, and will be showing the series in the fall. Starting with the first episode airing October 2006. So fans can see this amazing experience from the beginning!!!!

The article below has full details of Treat Williams and Greg Berlanti's New Projects

Bringing this news over and it has slight The O.C. Spoiler info.

Hey guys, i was just on tv guide reading the "ausiello report" column and found the interview he did with Everwood alum Chris Pratt and him joining The O.C.

Scoop! Everwood's Chris Pratt Joins The O.C.!
Finally, I've got some good news for all you heartsick Everwood fans. The O.C. had the Bright idea (c'mon, I had to!) to cast Chris Pratt — aka Everwood's lovable blockhead Bright — for a multi-episode arc this season. He'll play Che, an environmentalist that Summer (Rachel Bilson) befriends while away at college. You don't, however, have to wait that long to read my exclusive Q&A with him, since Mr. Pratt just called me while driving around in New Mexico to discuss The O.C., adjusting to life after Everwood and the perils of dating your TV sibling.

Ausiello: How's everything?
Chris Pratt: Everything is very well, thank you. I'm out in New Mexico of all places.

Ausiello: What are you doing in New Mexico?
Pratt: Visiting my lady. She's out here working on a movie, so I just came out to give my moral support and play some golf.

Ausiello: Is this lady's name Emily VanCamp?
Pratt: Yes!

Ausiello: How's she doing?
Pratt: She's doing really well. She's working her butt off out there, but she's happy and challenged.

Ausiello: What movie is it?
Pratt: I believe the working title is Carriers, but it was the Untitled Pastor Brothers Project. It's an end of the world thriller-type thing. It's pretty cool.

Ausiello: Tell me about your O.C. character, Che.
Pratt: He's a lot different than any character I've ever played. He's a college-aged kid, who comes on the scene to stir things up between Seth and Summer. He's a left-wing liberal, environmentalist, vegan-type of save-the-chickens character that's a little over-the-top, but he's completely earnest. He's kind of a hippy. It's a very funny role.

Ausiello: How does he meet Summer?
Pratt: We come into the season having already established some sort of friendship. They go to school together and Summer has, as you'll see, changed from her original personality. She's less O.C. and more into the environment. You're going to see "Greenpeace Summer."

Ausiello: Are you and Summer romantically involved when the season starts?
Pratt: No, no, no. I don't think this is a love triangle. Summer has no interest in the Che character, from what I've read so far. There's probably going to be that imminent threat looming, but she's pretty clear about not liking him in that way. I think she's just clinging to something different from where she came from, because she left the O.C. under such tragic circumstances, losing her friend and all that stuff. She's trying to find an identity outside of who she really is, and I think she just happened to cling on to this left-of-center character.

Ausiello: How many episodes are you doing?
Pratt: I think I'm doing six episodes.

Ausiello: Anything else going on?
Pratt: I'm producing a movie with John Beasley, who played Irv on Everwood. I can't really say what it is right now because we haven't fully secured the rights to it. But we've been working on this project for about eight months now, and that's really turning into something that could be really cool. (He gets distracted by something while driving) Hey, there's a hitchhiker! Should I pick him up?

Ausiello: No. Drive right past him. And don't make eye contact.
Pratt: Oh, man, he's an old guy.

Ausiello: Let him go. You're doing an interview.
Pratt: (Laughs) Yeah, I'll let him go.

Ausiello: Let's talk about Everwood. You'd probably be back on the set right about now had the show been picked up. Miss it?
Pratt: Yeah, I do. I really started to enjoy living in Utah. It has everything that I like to do there: fishing and hunting and camping and hiking and skiing. I kind of fell in love with Utah, but I also fell in love with my girlfriend, so it's a trade-off. I get to take her with me to Los Angeles. (Laughs) I think everybody feels pretty good about it. The fact that we were able to go as long as we did, it's such a positive thing that it's hard to look back on it with any negativity. It's just television. Shows get canceled and people move on and you hopefully can see that the glass is half-full and be like, "Wow, that was a great experience." And for me, it totally was.

Ausiello: Did you hear about Project Ferris Wheel?
Pratt: I did. That was pretty amazing.

Ausiello: I rode the Ferris wheel!
Pratt: Did you? Mike, no way! That is so cool. I wish I would have been able to make it out. I was stuck in Utah. That was really touching. It just goes to show that our fans really liked our show. Unfortunately, there just weren't enough of them.

Ausiello: I have to ask: Do fans ever come up to you and Emily and go, "No! You guys can't date — you play brother and sister!"
Pratt: (Laughs) Yeah, we've pretty much gotten used to the response of, "Eww, that's weird. That's creepy." The people who know us are happy, and probably expected it to happen eventually. But yeah, every once in a while we get that one person that's like, "That's really creepy. You just kissed your sister."

Ausiello: Did you two think it was weird in the beginning?
Pratt: We thought it was weird for [first] six months, but it had more to do with just trying to hide our relationship from the set. I don't know why, and looking back on it, it was foolish. But we were trying to stay secretive and didn't want it to get out there. It never really weirded us out that we played brother and sister, because, you know, it's all fiction.

Ausiello: You mean you're not really brother and sister?
Pratt: (Laughs) In real life we're actually not! We tried to hide it from everyone that wasn't dear and close to us, and then eventually it just felt very good to kind of just come out with our relationship. "Ah, f--k it. We're together. We love each other, and if you don't like it, you can kiss our ass — our collective brother and sister kissin' ass."

Ausiello: Why did you feel you had to keep it a secret?
Pratt: Obviously, they can never tell you not to date anybody on set. But it's always looked at as being a bit, "You should be a little apprehensive about getting involved with somebody that you work with." But we weren't apprehensive at all. We just said, "F--k it. Let's just go for it, because it's important to us." But, that being said, other people may have had doubts or suspicions about us being able to last and this and that. Basically, once we get on set, we really just kind of became our characters and left our relationship behind. We would sneak a kiss here and there, but we would try and stay as professional as possible so no one would get uncomfortable. We certainly would never bring any arguments to the set or anything like that.

Ausiello: Any wedding bells in your future?
Pratt: Man... I think I'd have to... Um... (Laughs) I've never been able to… Ah, shoot, I don't know how to say this without... um... I think Emily and I are very much in love and often people who are very much in love get married. But we're both still young so who knows?

Greetings!

In this issue, Everwood actor Gregory Smith talks about his newest role as producer on the low-budget film Wieners.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gregory Smith’s Newest Role
by Karina Halle. June 21th 2006

In his 22 years, actor Gregory Smith has had his fair share of diversified roles; a kid battling army toys come-to-life in Toy Soldiers, the war-hungry son of Mel Gibson in The Patriot, or a sensitive yet strong-minded teenager moving to a small town in Everwood. But the latest role for this ambitious Canadian is that of producer.

Smith and producer Susan Johnson have started up Braveart Films and are busy in the pre- production stage of their first film Wieners, a low-budget movie that Smith describes as a “buddy road trip comedy about three best friends who go on a trip and help each other stand up for themselves and strengthen their friendship along the way.”
“But,” he adds, “it’s also very silly and very funny too.”

Although Smith has been acting since the age of six, his turn to producing is a result of wanting to broaden his skills and gain stability in a notoriously unstable industry.

“I’ve always loved acting so that’s always going to be the thing that I am most passionate about,” says Smith. “It (his opting to produce) is a combination of acting being somewhat unstable and also me wanting to diversify, and to get to the point where I can be the master of my own destiny a bit more. And overall, anything I do and anything I have ever done, I always get fascinated by how it works and want to see if I can do it.”

And do it, he can. Smith decided to take on the project after reading a script that one of his best friends had written on spec.

“He gave it to me to read for my opinion, to see if I had any advice or notes on it,” says Smith. “I fell in love with it. I was like, dude, this is so funny.’ Then he was submitting it to places, trying to get it set up and I was giving him advice here and there.”

At the time, Smith was also in talks with Johnson, with whom he worked as an actor for the upcoming filmNearing Grace, about starting up a production company together.

“These two things were happening simultaneously and starting to come together. It was a perfect fit. Susan and I optioned the script, we set it up and then it took on a life of its own.”

So far, Smith says it’s been quite a different experience acting as a producer on set rather than as an actor.

“It’s different for me because I’m so used to looking at everything from the inside out,” he says. “As an actor, you’re on set, you’re in front of the camera, so you’re kind of in the middle of it and everything flows outwards from there. But being on set as a producer, you get there and the actors are on set, and you’re behind the camera, looking at the monitor ・you’re on the outside, looking in.”

The most challenging part of producing, according to Smith, is knowing that you can’t please everyone all the time and the most important thing he’s realized is that you need to balance individual needs with the “big picture.”

“You have to find out what’s most important for the film and not for the individual. Always keep in mind the bigger picture of the movie and what is best for it. Because if the movie doesn’t turn out good, then what’s the point of anything else? ”

He says that so far there has been no “real big surprises,” but has learned that “if you do your job right ・if you do a really good job in pre-production, it can run smoothly. The ideal goal is to put all the elements together in such a way that you aren’t even necessary.”

Next, Smith hopes to continue with producing and hopefully move on to directing in the future.

“There is not a single doubt in my mind that I will, when I am ready to and I feel I can do a better job than anybody else, but I’m not there yet. I hope to be there someday.”

Meanwhile, Braveart Films has its hands full with a stream of films lined up, preferring to take on projects that inspire Smith, rather than sticking to a certain genre.

“We have a couple of projects we are developing right now,” Smith says. “Wieners is a comedy, the one we want to do next is a family movie and the one after that is a psychological thriller. So, really there is no specific type or genre of movie that we want to make. It’s just whatever story or character I hear about that makes me think about it and I can’t get it out of my head ・that’s what makes me want to show it to the people.”

As for what the future might bring with Wieners, Smith is optimistic: “my hopes for the film is that it turns out as good as the script is and that it makes people laugh - my hopes for the future is just to keep working and find things that are inspiring to me. It doesn’t matter how good of a job you do, you also have to get lucky. So, hopefully, I’ll just continue to work and do different things.”

Having already accomplished so many things at just age 22, it looks like Smith’s luck isn’t going to run out anytime soon.

Do you remember Miss Violet, Delia's teacher, who appeared in three Season 1 episodes (The Great Dr. Brown, Deer God, and The Miracle of Everwood)? The actor who played her, Beth Grant, plays a very funny role in Little Miss Sunshine. I agree with the critics who think that it was this summer's best movie. It's not for kids, but for adults who don't mind a bit of raw humor, it is hilarious.

Here's a new interview from Treat Williams about his new movie, but also mentioning our favourite little show:

Given the choice, Treat Williams says, he’d rather shoot a movie outside Hollywood than in it.

“You’re out of the ‘what have you done lately?’ mode of Hollywood,” the 54-year-old actor said. “I think Hollywood’s very aware of itself, and when you go on location, it can only be about the making of the film.”

Williams, whose credits include “Hair,” “Prince of the City” and the TV series “Everwood,” was in the Quad-Cities last week to film his scenes for “The Hideout.” The movie, by Italian director Pupi Avati and his producer-brother Antonio, is in the final week of a five-week shooting schedule in and around the Quad-Cities.

Scenes were being shot last week at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. Williams filmed a scene in the breezeway between the church and its offices opposite Italian actress Laura Morante.

Williams said he was uncertain who his character is, whether he is even a hero or a villain.

“I think I’m sort of a conduit between those dark forces that are after her (Morante’s character),” he said. “Basically, the character is mysterious, but he’s extricating information from her. We don’t know whether he is on her side or on the side of those forces. He also represents a calm voice of reason that warns her that what she’s doing is going to get her in trouble.”

Several of those on the set said they were impressed by Williams’ easygoing nature and sense of humor. Williams said he also liked the friendliness of the Midwestern and Italian crew.

“There’s a certain ambiance that makes it kind of fun,” he said.

Williams had not worked with the Avatis before, but they had several mutual friends who recommended him for the role.

He said the Avatis have a unique way of filmmaking. The script reads more like a short story, he said, from which actors are to extract their dialogue. For instance, in a dinner scene, Williams said, Pupi Avati put his head on the table of the restaurant, out of camera range, and nodded approval as the actors delivered their lines.

“It’s very standard, very organized,” Williams said. “He’s a pro, obviously.”

Williams came to the filming shortly after the cancellation of “Everwood,” the drama in which he starred on The WB network.

The WB and UPN were combined in the spring to become The CW network, which premieres this week. And “Everwood,” after four seasons, was not on the schedule of fall shows.

“I thought it was the best show on The WB, no holds barred,” said Williams, who played a doctor and widower raising his children in Utah. “I think it wasn’t a case of the value of the show as much as the show was always about this doctor, but the doctor was over 20.

“That didn’t fit into the concept they wanted to create.”

Williams said the handwriting was on the wall for the series, especially after he saw an ad campaign for The CW that’s aimed at younger viewers.

“They are very focused on the youth market, and our show consistently pulled in viewers between 18 and 50, not between 18 and 19,” he said.

Williams has also been cast in “Heartland,” a medical drama on the TNT cable channel in which he plays a successful transplant surgeon who is brilliant at what he does, but doesn’t have a life.

The Connecticut native, who moved with his wife and two children to Utah for “Everwood” and still lives there, said he enjoys all forms of acting.

“You’re a part of making something that people will hopefully be entertained by,” he said. “At the heart of it all, we’d like to think we’re great teachers, but we’re entertainers.”

Also a pilot, Williams passes the time during breaks in filming by reading aviation magazines or any of three novels that await in his trailer. He’s also on the phone with his agent, looking for the next job.

“When we’re out of work, we have to work very hard to find work,” he said. “It’s part of the process of being a gun for hire.”

Film incentives put Fiji on 'Edge'
Fund goes 'Straight'

By DAVE MCNARY
Posted: Sun., Sep. 24, 2006, 10:00pm PT
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117950636?categoryid=13&cs=1&nid=2562

Fiji is getting ready for its close-up via "Straight Edge," a psychological thriller that starts shooting Oct. 2 with Peter Stormare, Mila Kunis and Gregory Smith toplining.

The $14 million project has been financed by Fijian investors, co-produced by Canadian shingles CD Films Prods. and Edgey Prods. with Craig Baumgarten ("Shattered Glass") and Robert Geringer exec producing.

Christian Duguay ("The Art of War") is directing a script from John Cox and Agatha Dominik. Sidney Kimmel Entertainment will handle international distribution; a domestic distribution deal hasn't been inked.

Story's about a group of troubled teens sent to a rehabilitation program housed in a remote camp on the island of Fiji. What their parents believe is a state-of-the-art deluxe institution in a beautiful natural environment turns out to be a prison-like boot camp where they are abused and brainwashed.

Features such as "Cast Away," "The Blue Lagoon" and "Anacondas 2" have been shot in Fiji, but "Straight Edge" is the first to use the nation's 5-year-old incentive program, designed to provide jobs and start a film production infrastructure. "The problem they're addressing is that most educated Fijian teenagers go overseas for their education and have little incentive to return," Geringer said.

Geringer has been working on bringing a project to the South Pacific nation since he met a member of the film commission at Cannes in 2003. He's made two dozen trips to Fiji since and brought in Baumgarten, who worked as an exec at Par, Col, Lorimar and Fox.

Geringer and Baumgarten assert that the multitude of Fijian landscapes plus incentives can lead to a Fijian film industry. They plan to arrange financing for several more projects, with the second to shoot as early as the spring.

Calgary’s Edge
Kerra McEwen - Calgary Sun November 21, 2006
http://www.calgarysun.com/cgi-bin/publish.cgi?p=162629&x=articles&s=showbiz

Not many people would enjoy winter in Calgary more than the beautiful beaches of the South Pacific, but Mila Kunis does.

After five weeks of torrential rain in Fiji, the actress finds Calgary’s current weather comforting.

“I like the cold, I do. But ask me when it’s negative 14, I’ve never been in negative 14 before,” says the 23-year-old of her first visit to the city, where she’ll spend the next two weeks filming Straight Edge, a dramatic thriller.

“Fiji, it was like a cyclone but it worked for the film.

“If it was too pretty and too beautiful then it wouldn’t make any sense,” she tells the Sun at a downtown cafe Nov. 20, explaining how the rainy weather in Fiji was a good fit for the movie’s misery-filled plot.

Kunis is best known for her time playing annoying teen Jackie Burkhart on the hit series That ’70s Show.

Kunis, along with actors Gregory Smith and Peter Stormare, signed on to the production as a way to help expose the real-life events involving at-risk teens who are kidnapped and taken to remote camps in Fiji.

Once in the rehabilitation camps, the teens are abused and brainwashed in prison-like facilities.

Smith — who played outcast Ephram Brown on the WB network’s Everwood — plays Ben, a teen whose girlfriend Sophie (Kunis) is kidnapped.

“He’s with her at a party and she’s taken. And so he finds out where she is and decides to fake a drug addiction to get himself sent there and then once he’s there he tries to map out an escape,” says Smith, 23.

Both agree Calgary — which will sub as both Denver and Portland in the movie — is a great place to wrap up their filming.

“On the weekends in Fiji I would scuba dive and on the weekends here I’m going to ski … this is the only movie I think I’ll ever do that,” says the Toronto-born Smith.

Directed and co-produced by Emmy nominated Christian Duguay, Straight Edge is set to be released in 2007.

Everwood star embraces the chill

Everwood hottie Gregory Smith knows how to cope with the Canadian cold (he was born in Toronto) but the same can’t be said for his latest co-star, Mila Kunis. The two are in Calgary right now shooting scenes for the thriller Straight Edge, fresh from weeks of filming in much-warmer Fiji. Kunis has been overheard complaining about the below-zero temperatures in Calgary (which is standing in for Denver and Portland) but Smith, 23, feels right at home. On weekend breaks, he heads to the slopes to enjoy some skiing – while Kunis keeps toasty in her suite at the Sheraton, where both stars are staying.

'Dark' falls for Smith, Eccleston
The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3id95484acf64d7d7e11006bee12771a9c) By Borys Kit - Feb 15, 2007

Gregory Smith and Christopher Eccleston have joined the cast of "The Dark Is Rising," 20th Century Fox and Walden Media's adaptation of Susan Cooper's best-selling books. Marc Platt and Ron Schmidt are producing the picture, which is being helmed by David L. Cunningham.

"Dark" tells the story of a teenager (newcomer Alexander Ludwig) who learns that he is the last of a group of warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the Dark. Traveling back and forth through time, he hunts for clues while encountering the forces of evil and discovers that the future of the world rests in his hands.

Smith is playing the teen's older brother, an edgy young man with piercings and tattoos who questions their father's authority.

Eccleston is playing the movie's villain, the Rider.

Also in the cast are Amelia Warner ("Aeon Flux"), Emma Lockhart ("Batman Begins"), Gary Entin, Edmund Entin, Jonathan Jackson and John Benjamin Hickey ("Flags of Our Fathers").

Ian McShane and Frances Conroy have already been cast.

The movie is slated to begin filming Feb. 26 in Romania.

Debbie Liebling is overseeing for Fox and Alex Schwartz and Evan Turner are overseeing for Walden.

Smith is best known for starring on WB Network's critically acclaimed drama series "Everwood." He next will appear on the big screen in "Closing the Ring," opposite Shirley MacLaine and Mischa Barton, for director Richard Attenborough. Most recently, he starred in "Nearing Grace" with Jordana Brewster. He is repped by Endeavor and Anonymous Content.

Eccleston is currently stealing scenes as an invisible man on NBC's "Heroes." Other recent credits include "28 Days Later" and BBC's "Doctor Who." He is repped by Endeavor and Larry Taube of Principal Entertainment.

Long-time no post
hey everyone

Some exciting Sarah Lancaster news:

Ausiello Report
Exclusive: Josh Schwartz Teams Up with Everwood Alum
This just in: One of our favorite Everwood peeps, Sarah Lancaster, has nabbed the female lead in Josh Schwartz's much-buzzed-about NBC pilot Chuck, sources confirm. Lancaster joins Zachary Levi (Less Than Perfect), who's playing the title character — a computer geek who moonlights as a superhero.

Long-time readers of Everwood Online know that there were reports about three years ago that Steven Spielberg interviewed Gregory Smith about the possibility of his playing the lead in the movie version of Tintin, based on the Belgian comic book character. We heard nothing more about this until the following announcement was made last week. At least one Tintin movie will be made. Still no announcement about who will get the leading roles, but keep fingers crossed for Greg. Here is what the newspapers reported March 8 and 9:

BRUSSELS, Belgium — Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks company has committed to produce at least one movie on the famed Belgian cartoon character Tintin, the head of the Tintin studio announced Thursday.

Nick Rodwell of Herge Studios said the Hollywood company will go into preproduction on a film, which should be in theaters in about two years.

It was unclear which of the 24 cartoon books of Tintin's adventures would be picked for a first movie script, he said. "If movie No. 1 works, we will continue."

Talks about a Hollywood movie on the intrepid reporter who saves the lives of countless people and makes sure criminals end up behind bars has been talked about for a quarter-century.
