I've been to his zoo as well...Love it there...been there...hmmm three times maybe?
He was a true aussie icon.

i just heard that he died its so sad. a stingray stung his heart or something. i fell so sorry for his wife and his kids:( stupid stingray.

It's so ironic really that Steve, who has dealt with crocs and sharks and snakes and all that venomous stuff, should be killed by a stingray that is normally harmless.
I think there's only been 2 other stingray deaths in Australia...17 worldwide I thing...

I just heard this on the news. How awful :(

I honestly thought my friend was yanking my chain when she came up and told me "Omg, Steve Irwin died" but then I saw it ALL over the news. Apparantly, he was shooting a documentary and he came over a sting-ray which went peirced his chest. I think it's ironic that 1- he was killed by something relatively harmless, when all his life he's been wrestling with crocodiles and poisonous snakes and 2 - part of the documentary was aimed at debunking myths about the danger's of sting-rays.
Anyway, it's terrible that Aus has lost such a great icon. I met him once and he was such a great guy, his passion for his work was really amazing. I feel the most sorry for Bindi-Sue though, her dad was her hero :(

He was so energetic and he loved what he was doing.
He taught us about conservation and the wildlife...and so much...and taking risks...

My mum read it on Yahoo! this morning, and came and told me. I loved him, and his shows. He was such a sweet, caring guy, and he's done so much for wildlife, showing people all about these hugely misunderstood creatures.
I met him not long ago, he was an AMAZING guy. He was hugging everyone, letting us all hold animals and such, and he was just so excited to have people interested in the things he was talking about, animals people are typically terrified of. I mean, I used to HATE snakes - After meeting him, I'm saving up for a Ball Python. I think I'll name it after him.
He's really going to be missed, and all my thoughts will be with his family.
Andrew

Isn't that ironic? His whole career was spent on handling dangerous crocodiles/alligators with ease, but his demise came from a stingray.
I didn't even know him...although he was apparently big in Germany, too.
His show was apparently on TV all Sunday every week since I can remember, and now I talked to people I can remember switching channels whenever I saw him and his crocodiles.
Well, apparently he was very loved. When I watched the news today I saw the Australian Prime Minister speak about him. That never happens here...
But it is a shame he dies young, since he had little children and was apparently a nice guy.
Andrew
09-04-2006, 12:35 PM
Well, he was a cheerful, enthusiastic, and funny guy ("Crikey!")... hard not to like him.
Hm, I kind of nothing-ed him, which is because whenever I saw snippets of his show there was dirt flying around, hectic camera movement and crocodiles...
But that's not his fault...
Chris
09-04-2006, 12:40 PM
i feel sorry fro his family, it must be so devastating, and i agree it is ironic that his downfall was a stingray
Andrew

lol. Yeah... sometimes you can only watch crocodile-wrestling in small increments.

RIP. :(
For years since i was a kid,i've been watching him in awe. Seeing him do things many wouldnt do or wouldnt think of doing. He was definitely one of a kind and i'll miss the crazy aussie. He did a lot in his life that most cant or havent done so i'm sure he was happy with his achievement. But i cant believe his death was by a stringray out of all creatures.
Anyhow, my heart goes out to his wife and children.

The Australian Government are in shock. Several leaders have spoken to the news about their thoughts - the forgeign minister, the prime minister, opposition leaders and they even mentioned it IN parliament...
He was an Australian icon.
Yes he depicted a stereotypical Aussie man, not done since Crocodile Dundee, but he really did help in boosting tourism sales in Australia...
Not to say he wasn't without controversy.
If you can't recall, or don't know, he was told off for bringing his new baby boy with him in a crocodiles pen while he was feeding him.
I used to watch his TV show all the time when i was a kid, it is a great loss to the world
aww. I saw his picture in the newspaper but didnt read about it till now!
I liked him/his show, it was always amusing and he was so brave and seemed so happy!
Ironic death but he was doing what he loved most which better than most deaths..but poor family!

This is completely insane. I couldn't believe it when I saw it on people.com. I mean... I think I would have been less shock to read that Britney dumped Kevin than reading that beloved Steve died... I used to watch it all the time when I was younger :(

I woke up and saw this on CNN and I was amazed. Back when I had cable, I'd watch his show a lot. I went to work and told everybody, and they thought I was joking. He did a lot for the world and he will be missed.

And last night on the radio, we usually have 'the Benchwarmers', which is this funny/silly radio programme where the dudes prank people and stuff, but last night they couldn't do the show because they just didn't know what to do, so they just had people calling in with their reactions...

I know hey?
Hahahaha my dad just came in and asked if I could find a picture of a stingray for him...I showed him. And he's in shock.
My dad is a HUGE Steve Irwin fan. He loves saying "Crikey" (in his Filo accent...teeheehee)...he's pretty upset about it too...but upset in he's wondering how it could possibly happen to him...

I'm a bit shocked by a Stingray being able to kill someone like that too... I mean, they look so harmless...

this was a really really rare accident, like a one in a million thing >_< there's only been about 2 deaths by stingray recorded in Australia, making Steve the 3rd person to be killed by one in Aus. They were saying that he didn't stand a chance, not when the barb peirced his heart - he died within a matter of minutes.
I still find it hard to believe though, even with it all over the news and every TV station paying him tributes. He just seemed so much larger than life, invincible even. Suppose that goes to show, you never know what could happen. :(
sethsangel123
09-05-2006, 01:54 AM
if it had been any other part of his body like his arm or leg or something he would have probably survived, because they can administer antibiotics but a sting to teh heart like that kills practically instantly

09-05-2006, 02:16 AM
I'm still in shock that he past away. When I first heard about it on the news, I thought they were saying that he was injuried by something unusual, not knowing that it was by a stingray. I didn't listen up closely, but when I saw a picture of him with his name and "1962-2006", my mouth just dropped with shock. I mean, he's the crocodile hunter! He went up to alligators and snakes! But, killed by a stingray? It's so hard to believe. The worst part and hurtful thing to hear was how it puntured his heart. That's just unbelieveable. His heart. That's just insane!
I will miss him truely. He's one hell of a hunter, that's for sure. Damn, I'll truely miss that accent of his... :(
RIP Steve Irwin, the one and only best Crocodile Hunter possibly ever...

I was really sad about this. Steve seemed almost invincible, and he was so lively and friendly. I will definitely miss him. his show was one of my favourites because of his upbeat attitude. R.I.P xoxo

By the way, that banner is so adorable... and yet, so sad... i mean, all I can think about is his family, especially poor Bindi loosing her hero in life, the one person she looked up to the most.
