Here's a show so densely populated there's not enough time to introduce all the characters. That's a rarity in television.

Mysterious genetics cause certain people around the world to develop superpowers, much to their confusion. The brother (Ventimiglia) of a politician (Pasdar) believes he can fly. A high school cheerleader (Panettiere) can drop from great heights without being hurt. A police officer (Grunberg) can hear people's thoughts. A Japanese man (Oka) can pierce the space-time continuum.

A genetics professor from India may know why this is happening. Certain evil people are certain that he does. Meanwhile, a drug-fueled artist (Cabrera) is writing and painting scenes from the future — a dream that includes a nuclear explosion.

SAYS THE CRITIC:
This is not a series to watch casually. As in Lost, there are individual story lines as well as the overriding arc. And each episode will leave you with more unanswered questions.

You are warned: This is addictive television. If you can stand to add another hour to your TV diet, this is the one to add. But if the show fails to rise above cult status and gets canceled, don't call us.

GRADE: B+
