Why is ER still on?

And it is on because it's a great show and it had many fans that are loyal to it.

Well, why not? It's still doing relatively well on NBC.

Just because the majority of the original cast has left doesn't mean there isn't a show anymore.

i think this show managed to do something that any other show ever did, it stayed on air for more than twelve years and still has viewer despite the changes of character. i know soap operas (bad acting and bad writting) that are on tv for more than 30 years so i think it's fair that for once, it's a good show that stays on. after loosing shows like Everwood, i learned to appreciate this kind of stuff.
as for why it's still on air, i'd say because it's a great show, with a lot of realism, very mouving, well written and very well acted :)

ER is still on air, because thet still have millions of viewers every week. Yes, everyone form the original cast is gone, but it is still interesting.

exactly and to be honnest i started watching it two years ago so i'm not familiar with the original cast. i miss carter though :(

It's on because it gets good ratings, ratings have actually gone up this year. Do some research and that will tell you why it's still on.
