Television shows go. That goes for actors, too. Each year, a handful of relatively new television stars have the potential to become bigger stars of tomorrow, even if their shows don't succeed.
On the first "10 to Watch" list I compiled in 1998, for example, were Keri Russell, who went from "Felicity" to "Mission Impossible 3," and Kevin James, whose "King of Queens" will be back on CBS later this year.
Last's year's picks included Tyler James Williams of "Everybody Hates Chris." UPN, which carried the show, has disappeared. But his show survived for a second season, now on The CW network.
Other "10 to Watch" selections from last year were Wentworth Miller of the Fox series "Prison Break" and Matthew Gray Gubler of the CBS show "Criminal Minds."
This year's list of actors to keep an eye on includes:
Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura, "Heroes," NBC: Fans at the San Diego Comic Convention reportedly greeted Oka in July with great enthusiasm. It's his character on the new sci-fi series who actually embraces his new- found superpowers.
Oka admits that the enthusiasm is not all acting.
"I love comic books. I grew up on the Japanese manga. So I can go all the way through the old 'JoJo,' 'Fantastic Adventures' to the modern stuff like the 'Monsters' and the 'Death Notes.' It's kind of an extension of me, which is kind of cool," Oka says.
