Nicaragua has passed a law that forbids woman to get an abortion with absolutely no exceptions.
Even rape, incest or death risk for the mother aren't excluded there.
Apparently the law was enforced by the catholic hardliners.

I am pretty speechless about it. I mean, I get why this subject is still a very controversial one and why people would consider it murder (though I personally disagree), but forcing a woman to bear a child that derives from a rapist, it seems outrageous to me, inhuman actually.

This is ridiculous...

This is just going to increase the number of illegal abortions, which are ridiculously dangerous. People are not going to stop having abortions because of this law... they are just going to put themselves at complete risk to do so.

What a shame...

I hate it when religion is pushed upon politics

Isn't there also a problem of a lack of accessibility to contraceptives and education about it? The government is really giving the woman no way of protecting herself from unwanted pregnancy (or STD).

It overwhelms me that there are still places that are so prejudiced in this day and age... no matter what your stance is on the issue of abortion, this is putting lost, scared women at risk.

so, ive changed my mind scince ive last posted on the subject: i do think it would be acceptable for rape or harm to the mother or child, to abort

(gulps)

why do i still not include incest?: why did they have sex in the first place?

(and if you pull out this whole 'they love each other' crap i might get sick, my dad has 2 cousins, who married, totaly normal, awsome people, i love them both, but they wont have sex because they talked to all kinds of sources (such as their Priest ect.) and know not leading to them adopting)

in any other case, such as using it as birth contol, i still consider it murder

This is shocking! No exclusions... this really is... well, shocking.

So you think, when a girl gets pregnant from her uncles baby, she should just have the baby?

^Abortion due to incest is usually a result of rape, I think. Otherwise, I'd lump it in the "didn't use protection and now is having a baby" catagory.

Even rape, incest or death risk for the mother aren't excluded there.

Wow! My god, that's insane. No exceptions?

The thing is, if you're going to ban abortion, you need to get contraceptives out there in the public. Just because contraceptives aren't availalbe, and abortion is illegal, it doesn't mean people are going to stop having sex.

And sadly, the United States could be headed that way... (banning more types of abortion and providing a lack of contraceptive education)

This is one issue that just gets me going. Abstience-only education sucks. The birth rate in America is higher in the southern states, and guess what type of sex education they have? None or abstience-only.

^Then I agree with you. Consentual incest is no excuse.

If a person has sex with a relative willingly, and knows that the person is a relative, then that should be no excuse. The only person I'd feel sorry for is the baby.

Consentual incest, something I fail to understand, should still not be completely excluded. It is very well known that the result of incest are often gentical defects, both physical and mental and it should be discussed whether people should be forced to have a baby that might not survive his first year of life or never be able to articulate itself.

I do of course not think that people should undeliberately abort disabled childs. But I understand that some people are not able to deal with the care of an ill child and not every state has a system where you can depend on the fact that there will be somebody to take full care.

Are you being serious? Nobody WANTS that.

That law is just horrible. I am utterly shocked.

This makes me madder everytime I come into this forum... How can there still be such archaic places in this day and age?
