Enterprise's Mr. Sulu, will make a guest appearance on NBC's "Heroes," playing the father of popular character Hiro Nakamura, played by Masi Oka.

"This is absolutely brilliant," Oka told TV Guide, according to E! Online. "Hiro's father is this big honcho who shows up in America with his bodyguard. He has this whole elaborate scheme to kidnap his son and take him back to Japan."

Hiro, of course, has been hanging out in the United States after discovering the ability to bend time and space. He has joined the current mission of "saving the cheerleader," referring to Hayden Panettiere's character of Claire Bennett, who has the ability to heal herself -- even from death -- and whose adopted father is the mysterious Horned-Rim Glasses man, who is trying to find the people with new powers.

"It was just one of those lightning-bolt ideas," series creator Tim Kring told TV Guide. Hiro talked quite a bit about Star Trek after discovering his abilities, which will make the uncanny likeness of his father to Mr. Sulu probably somewhat discomforting for the character.

Or, maybe not. "I just hope I get to say, 'Dad! Sulu is my hero, not you!'" Oka said. "The sci-fi fans would love it."

The 69-year-old actor has been keeping himself busy. When he's not doing fan Star Trek projects on the Internet, Takei has appeared in an episode of Fox's "Malcolm in the Middle" as well as Comedy Central's "Roast of William Shatner," which aired over the summer. He has lent his voice to a number of Star Trek projects, mostly computer games, leading up to 2004's "Star Trek: Shattered Universe."

Takei appeared in the original series, as well as six Star Trek movies, and an episode of "Star Trek: Voyager."

"Heroes" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
