View Full Version : Thoughts on Season 7

Now I know that GG was the brain child of ASP and DP, but I have to say. I am enjoying Season 7 so much more than last season. The storylines are better, fresher, and less forced. And the show seems to have a new life breathed into it, at least in my opinion.
What are your thoughts?

I totally agree, Heather.
This season has given a new life to the show. If ASP and DP were still in charge over everything, I think the show would've driven itself to a point where this season would HAVE to be the last. Every show gets to a point where there are no more storylines left and the best thing to do is end the show, but with a change in power over Gilmore Girls so many new things have been brought to the table. I honestly wasn't a huge fan of Season 6 and was losing interest in the show, but this season just made everything exciting again like it was the first season. I still wish Colin and Finn would make an appearance because I love them to death, but I'm really pleased with this season as a whole. I also love that this season has allowed us to see more of Paris, Kirk, and other characters we didn't see as much of over the years.

So its not just me? lol
I do miss Colin and Finn...but other than that, the storylines are so much more interesting. Honestly, Season 6 was so boring, IMO. Everything was so forced. It was like once the Rory/Lorelai rift was ended, they didnt know what to do with the rest of the characters.
I see a new direction now. A new focus, and I for one, am excited to see what DP has in store for us.

I'm not much more of a fan of Season 7 than I was of Season 6. I started to not like how thing were in season 5 but now it seems really great in comparison. I think that I'm not looking clearly where season 7 is concerned though because I would probably like it better than season 6 if there wasnt so much Christopher.

I like this season so much more than the lsat few years. At the beggining everything was great but around season 3 or 4 things started to change and the show wasn't as good as it could be. But this season is way better I like the storylines much better. I also miss Colin and Finn they were so funny. I wish they were back.
I am fan of season seven so far. Characters were allowed to change, but not in a forced or unbelievable way. Bringing back Chris in this manner gave the show new dynamics and it brings up some interesting psychologial aspects.
What I am missing are some side characters, but it is getting better, definitely.
Rory's new friends are fun to me, and I like the Marty storyline, bringing her into a position different from the usual one ---> being jealous of some hot chick Logan randomly has to do with.

Yeah I have to say that I'm not really a fan of season 7. There are some things I like about it, like Lorelai/Chris (I'm just so sick of Lorelai/Luke)- although Lorelai doesn't seem fully commited to the relationship which is something I don't like. But overall, I do miss ASP and DP.

I wasn't too happy about season 6, and am not too impressed with season 7 either. Things seem less forced, but the townspeople are still MIA, especially Gypsy and Andrew, and we haven't seen Taylor much either.

I really like s7. My friend told me that it was getting canceled after season 7 and I don't know if that's true or not. I hope it's not.

I don't think its that great. I feel like the same things happen over and over again.. And just crap that isn't nessesary. I mean Chris and Lorelai married?! Ew! That should have been Luke. Seriously.

Im seeing that a lot of people have issues with the LC storyline. I dont. Im not a LL shipper. Im one of those people that doesnt care who Lorelai ends up with, as long as she's happy.
And considering that ASP pretty much dug them all into a hole with the Season 6 finale (Logan leaving for London/Lorelai sleeping with Chris), I think DP has done an amazing job as the show runner.

I see what you mean. I don't like Chris very much. I just think he has a lot of growing up to do. I hate that he just shows up whenever he wants and expects Lorelai to forgive him for what he did wrong the las time they saw each other. But I do like that they have history. I like that he knows this wild Lorelai that no one has seen before.

Same here. I have to force myself to watch.
You know what would be a good storyline? If Rory were to think she was pregnant. And then Lorelai finds out. It wouldn't be like other tv shows because they're much closer and Lorelai's history!

While I think Luke handeled the situation wrong, I think he really has his act together now and Chris, well, doesn't. I don't like the idea of Rory still being with Logan and her giving up Jess for him. I miss Paris and Lane! Get rid of those freaky new friends. I want my townspeople back too! I'm starting to think Rory and Logan will stay together through the rest of the series :(

I only have two issues:
1) Some of the humor/references can be rather hit-or-miss: it can either be hilarious or extremely contrived.
2) The direction is putrid. I must sigh an average of 7 times per episode everytime there is an awkward closeup shot or impromptu segue.
Other than that, it's fine

What I don't like:
1. I'm not sure if this is any different from previous years, but I feel that Lorelai's storyline is being given too much attention this year. Well, it's either that or all the other characters spend all their time doing nothing onscreen. (Though, I think that's true too.)
2. The rants. They're not smart anymore. I hate to say this, but Lorelai's been talking out of her @$$ this season. She just looks stupid during her fast chatty bits now.
3. All those tags being thrown at the end of nouns. "-er"s, "-est", "-iest." It look like that Lorelai failed grade 3 English. There's a difference between illiteracy and modern-speak (I probably made this word up ;)).
4. Some of the attitudes conveyed on this show don't match with the characters. When a 21 year old unexpectedly becomes pregnant, her first thought is not "Will I be a good mom?" And, Rory wouldn't have not brought up the subject of abortion.
5. Does Rory have a storyline this season?
6. Since when has Rory become the absolute mature one in the mother/daughter relationship?
7. The sudden love for male-on-male violence between full grown adults. I don't care what anyone says, getting into a fist fight over a girl is not sexy. It's a sign of a person's inability to control one's anger.
What I do like:
1. Dave seems to have fewer issues when it comes to the subject of sex. He's a lot more blunt in this department.
2. Logan finally grows up! Sure, he's made a few mistakes, but, but nothing that really wreaked of immaturity. (I absolutely loved his reaction to Rory and Marty's scheme. It really wasn't fair to that poor girl.)
3. Rory and Logan seem to overall have their s**t together this season. I was starting to get tired of their old teenage angst in previous seasons.
4. Christopher. I'm glad the writers didn't decide to make him look like a bad guy. He really isn't. Yes, his behaviour in the past has been less than stellar, but he finally seemed to have settled down a bit. (Although, some of his naiveness does drive me nuts.)

I was loving season 7. But the Lorelai/Chris marriage kinda blew it. They went waaaay to far with it and it's making the whole show annoying and boring. Also... those new friends Rory got? And one last think: I don't care about stupid April!!!

I think that it would be fine if Lorelai & Chris were together and there was like the whole Chris/Lorelai/Luke thing going on, because let's face it it's been going on since season 1, it's there, whether we like it or not. But I think that them being married is just plain annoying.
Also it's missing a lot of the interactions that are integral to gilmore girls. Rory's storyline is boring me and Luke is off in his own world with April, who I genuinely see as offering no benefit to the show, she bothers me on several levels.
It has had a lot of things that are good like the knitting festival and Paris/Doyle, Lane/Zach stuff. But it has to many big issues that bother me to come together to make the show unsettling and boring to me.
Rory's story is kind of stagnant, although I have a sneaking suspicion that that is being done on purpose what with her breakdown. But there needs to be more Lorelai/Rory, Rory/Lane, Rory/Paris, Rory/Logan (I'm not even a fan of this coupling but it seems like all they have them doing this year is like hes at work and she talks to him). Rory/Luke/Lorelai, it's just weird with Lorelai not going for breakfast every morning there, I realize that it's impossible now but something has to be done to get these three interacting more! April has got to GO, I realize it's not true to Luke's character but she drags the show down. Lorelai is funny but not functioning, she's missing her spark, she seems like shes rattling off her bits but that she's somehow unhappy. Maybe that's my Luke/Lorelai love pulling in there and maybe it's just that she's not with Rory enough. I don't know.

GG's story is icky like everyone's sigs; too much bulky detail for such a short message.:puke:

I love this season, the way its written and everything, I hate Chris and Lorelai together but I think it makes for good drama. I think DR is dragging there storyline on a bit too much though and Lroelai and Rory scenes are way too little, better then last season but still! What we do get with these 2 though are AWESOME!! Some of the best LR scenes!
Anyways it is a very good season, David Rosenthal has definately filled Amy and Dans shoes!

I'll take that point by point ;)
Dislikes:
1. It became the Lorelai show somewhere around late Season 5. Season 6 was definitely the Lorelai show. It stopped being the Gilmore Girls, and was all about Lorelai.
2. I actually dont mind the rants. I find them more enjoyable than I did in Season 6, and I actually find myself liking Lorelai more this Season. Last season, I want to egg her...lol
3. I havent noticed that, so I'll skip that one.
4. You're right about Rory and the abortion issue. If she got pregnant, I cant see that even entering her mind. Lane's reaction, I could see. She had sex once and twins were the result, kind of like Mama Kim Redux. I found that conversation amusing.
5. Rory hasnt had a concrete storyline since she stole a yacht.
6. I believe it was in last year's Valentine's ep. Logan and Rory were clearly the more mature relationship, with Rory being eons above Lorelai in her relationship with her guy.
7. So they both have hidden aggression?
Likes:
1. Im completely happy with what Dave has given us so far. I salute him, considering what he was given to work with.
2. Logan's maturity has been coming gradually. First as a boyfriend, then as a person. His growth has been evident, and wonderful to behold.
3. I chalk that up to ASP and writer's block. Last season was awful because it was chock full of cliches and over reactions.
4. No, he isnt. He's human, with his flaws. And I like him, and understand that. Most men's pride wouldnt have lasted this long.

Gilmore Girls used to be my favourite show. For me, Season 7 sucks. Its boring and I dont wanna know whats gonna happen. I didnt like the marriage but its not the only reason. Rorys storyline isnt good. I do like Logan but Rory has changed.
IMO Gilmore Girls lost something.

I like EVERYTHING in Season 7 except for Rory's life. The whole Marty thing was a waste of time, her new friends were hardly as interesting as Maddie et al and her reaction to her parents breaking up?? LAME!!! This is the one thing that has to be worked on. It seems the producers are placing a bomb on Lauren's character and we're all waiting for her to drop it. DR, pass that bomb on to Alexis as well!

Yea I really dont like how Rory has had almost no storyline this season and how they messed Martys character up to give Rory a storyline that wasn't worth wasting a character over.
I think her reaction to her parents break up though was great, I loved Rory more for it.

After the season cleared it's half point, I think DR has made improvements in how he is running the show. Things now aren't bugging me as much as they did just a few months ago. Rory seems to be getting some sort of story now that Logan's having work issues.
I like season 7 better than season 6, but it's definetly been a looooong time since GG lost it! It is sad, it used to be my all-time favorite show, but I really think it's about time for this show to retire...if you don't agree with me, well look at the Rory storyline! 'The what?' EXACTLY! Aside from the Logan story (which, by the way is starting to get over-used), nothing is happening! The show's missing some really important interactions between the characters! I will be sad when GG will end, but I'm even more right now to see how much things have changed, and not for the best! :nohope:
I am not particularly impressed with GG.
The fairy dust (sorry, I lack a better expression) seems to have been blown away by the end of season five.
I still like it, but it all became a little weaker. It is no longer this unique show which had the charming town nutcases and the crazy references.
The writing depleted and there are moments when it is average.
I mean, it still is better than most of the crap on TV, but it is not as outstanding as it used to.
^I totally agree, obviously!
I don't really know what caused the change...was the writting staff tired? Or they ran out of good stories? Or they got bored with the characters? Or they made some changes in the directing without realising it?
The thing is, somebody's not doing a good job! And the horrible thing is that it affects the rest of the crew and cast!
