The question is how seven weeks off the air will affect fans of NBC's Heroes, which returns with new episodes Monday at 9 ET/PT after having exited Dec. 4.
"We tried to learn from the mistakes of other serialized shows that have not run contiguous episodes back to back," series creator Tim Kring says. "What was decided is that we would do it in 'pods.' The first one was 11 episodes, which was very, very difficult to do."
The second pod has seven new consecutive episodes, followed by another break in March. Heroes will finish the season with a five-episode stretch ending in May.
Kring was concerned about how viewers would respond to the break, "but given the alternative of having the viewers' frustration of tuning in on any given night and finding a rerun without knowing that that's what they were going to find, I thought this was a much better solution."
