ROME (Reuters) - Call it the eternal embrace.
Archaeologists in Italy have discovered a couple buried 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, hugging each other.
"It's an extraordinary case," said Elena Menotti, who led the team on their dig near the northern city of Mantova.
"There has not been a double burial found in the Neolithic period, much less two people hugging -- and they really are hugging."
Menotti said she believed the two, almost certainly a man and a woman although that needs to be confirmed, died young because their teeth were mostly intact and not worn down.
"I must say that when we discovered it, we all became very excited. I've been doing this job for 25 years. I've done digs at Pompeii, all the famous sites," she told Reuters.
"But I've never been so moved because this is the discovery of something special."
A laboratory will now try to determine the couple's age at the time of death and how long they had been buried.

Actually, this was printed a few days ago..atleast in my city newspaper. So it's not that huge of a conspiracy
I think it's something different to look at compared to most pics we see today..kinda weird..it also makes me wonder how they died and why..

My original thought was Volcano, but their bodies arent perserved like the victims of Pompeii. Then it made me think that maybe they were buried together, like in Aida.

Sure they can. All you need is a person with a thick accent, and viola!
"Ash or Aishwarya Rai?"
Well maybe, but I was more commenting on someone who can speak English fairly well.

Pompeii is in Southern Italy. I actually paused, when you posted that, and thought, "Pompeii is not in Italy?" So, I looked it up and realized that I was right. Its near Naples.
Bombay is in India.
Gem,
That post made me chuckle. Makes sense since when you think of the Norman Invasion, and Henry becoming the King of England. But because my dad is such a WW2 freak, I always knew it was in France. A few weeks ago, I had to suffer through The Longest Day.
