Kate Walsh was born in San Jose, California, on October 13, 1967. She grew up partly in San Jose and partly in Tucson, Arizona, later attending the University of Arizona, where she got involved in regional theater. She later moved to Chicago where she began working with the Piven Theatre Workshop and, later, the Chicago Shakespeare Repertory. She performed on National Public Radio in the production of the radio play "Born Guilty". Walsh later moved to New York City and joined the comedy troupe "Burn Manhattan", performing in a number of Off-Broadway plays.

Her first major television appearance came on "The Drew Carey Show" (1995) where she portrayed Niki Fifer, Drew's girlfriend and a woman struggling with her weight. She went on to portray Carol Nelson in HBO's "The Mind of the Married Man" (2001) television series, and played Norm MacDonald's romantic interest in the sitcom "The Norm Show" (1999). She continued to appear on television programs in supporting or bit parts.

Portrayed the girlfriend of her future "Grey's Anatomy" (2005) cast mate, Sandra Oh, in Under the Tuscan Sun (2003). Coincidentally, her character in the film was also a doctor.

The film 'The Sweetest Thing' was written by Kate's best friend, 'Nancy M. Pimental'. The film's female characters were based on Nancy and Kate. Also, Kate can be seen on the DVD's special features.

I cried after the Thatcher/Meredith scene. But the whole other parts of the episode were great.

Kate Walsh stops by The Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday to chat up her upcoming spin-off of the award-winning popular television show, Grey’s Anatomy. The Private Practice series premiere “In Which We Meet Addison…” airs TOMORROW, Wednesday, September 26 @ 9PM ET/PT on ABC.

On Letterman, Kate shared about building up the wall at her home in Los Feliz for some privacy. She apparently received landscaping tips from the paparazzi! One of the left a note in her mailbox:

“We noticed you’re building up your wall but we just want to tell you that you really don’t have to. You can just put some more shrubs in and then we can’t really get a good pictures. Signed, The Paparazzi.”

her little beginning scene was great. It was a nice fun and flirty side we dont ge to see as often as i hope!

Even though Private Practice airs on ABC in the U.S., it looks like PP airs on FOX in Spain. And the show is called “Sin Cita Previa” in Spain, which translates to “No Doctor Appointment.”
