Matthew Settle stars as Rufus Humphrey, a former rocker turned gallery owner and father to two teenagers, Dan and Jenny (co-stars Penn Badgley and Taylor Momsen), in The CW's new drama "Gossip Girl," from Josh Schwartz ("The O.C."), based on the tremendously popular book series about privileged teenagers who attend an elite private school in New York City.

Most recently, Settle had a recurring role on "Brothers and Sisters." His other series credits include roles on "E.R." and "The Practice," and guest appearances on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "CSI: Miami." Settle has also starred in several television films, including "Blue Smoke," "Into The West," "A Place Called Home," "The Mystery of Natalie Wood," in which he portrayed Warren Beatty, "Band of Brothers," "Crime in Connecticut" and "Lansky," in which he played a young Bugsy Siegel.

On the big screen, Settle recently completed production on the thriller "Beneath." He starred in the "The Celestine Prophecy," which was adapted from the best-selling book. His other film credits include "Rancid," "Until the Night," "Attraction," "The In-Crowd," "U-571" and "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer."

Also what is it that Rufus said about despite the Humphrey name? do you think his wife came from money and he is considered beneath everyone in UES?

Is there name working against the kids to succeed?

Well, clearly she's crazy. :lol:

It was interesting though that so much focus was put on the Humphrey name...it does make you wonder if there's bad history there. Maybe Rufus' parents or grandparents? Or it could simply just be that they aren't Waldorfs/Archibalds/etc so their name means nothing in that world.

Rufus is such a cool dad though. He really loves his kids. They said he gave up everything for them...I wonder if that's why his band ended up being "forgotten" because he quit so he could be with his family? He obviously had success before that, so it would make sense.

Or was Rufus family from money and to mary the kids mom they cut him off from inheriting or even associating with family?

Perhaps they cut him off when he wanted to be a rock star and not banking or lawyer?

It does seem like Lilly and him traveled in the same circles. Like Lilly and Rufus might have been years ago Serena and Nate of their generation?

Well Rufus has definitely hinted that Lily went from rockstars to millionaires so maybe they both came from the same roots but she married into money? Or she "dated down" like Serena/Dan?

Randomly how weird is it that all the Humphreys have/had/will have a thing with the van der Woodsens? :lol:

Hmmm so Rufus and Dan talked so reveals alot. Rufus love of his life was Lilly!

Also reveal of Rufus wife and Lilly had a talk years ago and one of the reasons Lilly stays away from Rufus.

It seems that these two are like peas and carrots but keep on trying to avoid the truth.

I wonder when exactly she had the talk with Lily since it doesn't seem like Rufus/Lily were hanging out while their kids were growing up. It must have been early in the relationship?

Also, I was putting up the music lists for this week and Jenny's playlist has a song by Lincoln Hawk on it, so I'm hoping that means we get to hear Rufus sing on the show!

Well I really think that Rufus and Lilly are meant to be but to blind thru years to realize they belonged together.

Now they have a second chance.

I am glad they are developing this relationship slow. They need to be hit over the head with other relationships and keep coming back together to realize they belong together.

This is probably why Lilly relationships always failed in the past.
