Hate Group To Picket Ledger's Funeral

News of this is spreading all of the internet. I'm at a loss of words for this that this would even be considered by a group. It's sick, and I hope that the police handle the situation quickly and swiftly if it does indeed take place. It's simply horrible and sick.

A U.S. gay hate group has sparked outrage with plans to picket the funeral of tragic actor HEATH LEDGER.

The Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas - run by Reverend Fred Phelps - has posted plans on its website to protest at Ledger's portrayal of a gay cowboy in 2005 film Brokeback Mountain.

The web bulletin reads, "'Brokeback Mountain' star - Heath Ledger - is dead.
WBC will picket this pervert's funeral, in religious protest and warning."

"Ledger thought it was great fun defying God Almighty and His plan word.
Ledger is now in Hell, and has begin serving his eternal sentence there."

The actor was found dead at his New York apartment on Tuesday (22Jan08), aged 28, after suffering a suspected accidental drug overdose.

Ledger is not in hell, that's for sure. He did nothing bad. Just because he portrayed a gay cowboy doesn't mean your going to hell! He up there, in the heavens because he's nothing but a humble, nice, and generous guy. Maybe those who are picketing are going to hell for respecting a sincere man.

People need to stop confusing fiction with reality. Playing a gay character does not make you gay. Many straight actors have played gay characters in movies. Tom Hanks played a gay man in Philadelphia and he is straight. You can disagree with the gay lifestyle but protesting a dead person's funeral is crossing the line in my opinion.
People also need to stop labeling Heath Ledger as "the gay cowboy". He was in other movies besides that.

Ledger will be buried in Perth, so these 'people' will have to board a plane to Australia, with the sole purpose of disrupting his funeral.

yeah, this is outrageous. they are sick and unrespectfull to the memory of a deceased man, loved by so many and who left so many great things behind.
I, too, believe that they won't have access near the place where the funeral will take place. it's just that I'm not sure where will this happen: in Perth or in NY? On an Australian website they say Perth, on American websites they say Manhattan funeral home.
either way, I guess there will be some heavy security, for both this maniacs and paparazzi, to keep it as private as posible.

I find this church revolting. Im all for freedom for speech, but what they do to military families is appaling. And now they are going to picket Heath? All because of a character he played?

I sincerely hope that they are stopped. His family is going through an incredibly difficult time right now, not to mention Michelle and Mathilda. They are allowed their grief without it being exploited by this radical group.

Wow......you know it's people like this who give christians a bad name. I'm a christian, a christian who knows reality from fiction. It doesn't matter if you play a gay/bi/even hetero, if you have a relationship with God. Frankly I was saddened by the loss of Heath. This is an outrage...I...I....I don't even know what to say.

I know...I feel the same way. As someone who is currently grieving the loss of someone they loved, I couldnt imagine having to deal with hate mongerers like this. If they had shown up and picketed my father's funeral, I would have gone insane, and physically attacked them, to be honest.

The Westboro Baptist Church gives Christians a bad name. Personally, I see them as the Christian equivalent of Islamic fundamentalists.
