HEATH LEDGER's drug past has come back to haunt him in a series of hard-hitting articles making headlines in the U.S. tabloids a week after the Australian actor died.

The Brokeback Mountain star was found dead in his New York apartment a week ago (22Jan08) and even before the actor is buried in his native Perth, Australia, the American media are burying his reputation as a clean-living guy.

An autopsy failed to reveal how the actor died, although police believe his death could be drug-related as five different bottles of prescription drugs were found around his apartment.

And now America's OK! and Us Weekly magazines have dug up information about Ledger's reported drug use, which they claim led to the break-up of his romance with actress fiancee Michelle Williams.

Us Weekly claims Williams drove Ledger to celebrity rehab facility Promises in Malibu, California in spring 2006 and begged him to check in and address his apparent drug problems, but the actor promised her he'd quit without the need for counseling.

The publication reports Williams ended their engagement later that year because of Ledger's continued drug use.

Meanwhile, OK! magazine reports Ledger and two strangers snorted cocaine at a post-Screen Actors Guild Awards party in a room at Hollywood landmark the Chateau Marmont on 29 January, 2006.

The publication claims there's videotape evidence of the wild night.

OK! also reports Ledger secretly checked into a rehab facility while he was making Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight last year (06), and undergoing regular drug tests.

I don't know about you guys but I don't buy all of this. I keep hearing these reports, but Heath just appeared really far away from that world, especially since his daughter was born. Then again, I didn't personally know him so I would have no way of knowing. I just personally can't picture it, you know?

I think the tabloids are just trying to make up a story. It would be nice if they just paid tribute to the amazing actor and person that he was.

Yeah.. Like yesterday, I read that ET was going to air the video last night of where Heath was at a party doing drugs and stuff saying that his girlfriend (Michelle Williams) would hate him, etc. and how he had a baby with her three months ago. This video was taken 2 years ago. But yeah. Althought ET never aired it because they thought it was wrong since his family and friends is mourning for his loss. But the video thing is true because I saw previews when ET planned on putting it on TV, but yeah. :( It's so sad..

But I agree.. I think the Tabs should back away from any story of Heath, unless it was news on his autopsy. But other than that, spreading rumors isn't going to make anything much better. They should pay tribute instead putting a whole bunch of BS on a like 3 page spread.

Bunch of garbage. Even if he did that was his business. I would hate to see someone delve into my past.
